Topic: Are there any games out there that we can get ships? (Read 1339 times)

I already have all the freespace 1/2 ships, the armada 1/2 ships, the homeworld 1/cat/2 ships, the starfleet command 1/2/3 ships, the wing commander ships, but that is about it. I am trying to get some XWA (X Wing Alliance) ships ( help

) and bridge commander but its getting hard to find other races, styles, etc. from other games. Freelancer looks good but I have no idea how to get them out of the game. 3d modeling in games has been around almost as long as modders, so I would think there would be some way of getting more 3d models? Does anyone have any ideas for how to get more ships from these or other great games? Or a repository for 3d models? Any modeling format will do as I have 3d exploration. Anyways heres my rant and please help. This will help everyone modding here.

Terradyhne helped me with unpacking the files from Klingon Academy so I could play around with the ship models. They're in LWO format, but they're broken up into several objects, unlike SFC, BC, and Armada which use one whole mesh for one ship. Here's the Klingon Academy decompiler if you want it.

I was able to download all of the ships from Wing Commander IV in 3ds format. There are lots of cool fighters.

You will probably want to seek out Nexus: The Jupiter Incident or the Hegemonia games. LOTS of new ships that are sure to please. In the meantime, would you mind passing along one or two of your ships my way?

One is from Homeworld 2: Vaygr Battlecrusier

The other is from a Star Wars mod for Homeworld: Imperial Ravager Star Destroyer

The wing commander ships your talking about, are these the ones at http://wcmdf.solsector.net/ ? If not please let me know where to find the 3ds models.

Sorry about the vgr battlecruiser, but I found it way too high on polygons and deleted it. But you can download the model from the relic forums and use the hod tool to unpack the files, yes it is a little bit of work but a skill worth learning. Unfortunately I can't remember which model the Imperial Ravager is but post a pic and I'll see what I can do.

The Ravager is a good ship. In fact I made it my beast mothership in Homeworld Cataclysm. I can make it a .mod file easily using 3dsmax but I have never done this so the scaling would be all wrong and someone would have to make glow textures, you know those textures with the i at the end of them...

anyway if you need the file converted I can help you with that but anything else I will need some help. Plus the O.K. from the creator would need to be aquired first

but anyways... yeah we can make this happen, let me know what you think and how to go about getting this done.

Hey, thanks for volunteering there, Starblazer. I've had a hard time time getting in contact with the Ravager's creator. I'd left a message some time back at the Trekmods forums asking permission to covert her to SFC. No response. I could try again, but it looks like he rarely posts there.

Well yeah, its an obsession Captain. I only 'wish' I could come up with these great designs for ships. The best I can do is use Revit to build 3d houses and even then the ideas come from my clients. I am a big fan of other peoples work and for that reason alone I want there work to be seen by others in as many ways possible. Or at least Homeworld Cataclysm. $:-\$ But for the sake of argument, I havent gotten any good leads since I posted this thread so maybe there is no way to get ships from other games.

getting permissions r some of the hardest parts to get. hehe i know , lol as i have done alot. unforntuantely it may take awhile a long while as i have still been waiting on a few myself. oh and by the way any game u buy, almost all of them can be have ships taken out. there is however one big big catch, u can not distribute the extracted models in any way. unless u have permission. that is y there is a few ships i ahve that i am not even allowed to really mention. u just have have to look around and around. but u will need some heavy hitting software on some games to do it. as most ppl will tell u when extracting from other games and formats i am kinda the king lol

but everything is still down for me at the moment so i cant do much in helping. i can kinda of point u in a general direction. for every game u'd like to try to extract from go to there respective forums, it will take a while, as of now i know of about 30-50 different games u can extract from. and the list is growing, as far as individuals go just post in there respective forums, i took me about 2 yrs to get some permissions. some ppl will only let u convert them first then want to inspect it too before any final ok. like i said i can help some. so let me know what other games u r thinking of, and ill check off and on here to help update u.
