I'm thinking of going with the top floor Apartment. Its smaller but still considering the noise I'm putting up with now, I would like some peace and quite. Its also a corner apartment. Parking place would not be that far. Top floor I might be able to keep the window open too, and It's got a balcony to where I could set up a grill.

Both have celing fans to help cool them off

Bottom floor is bigger and got a patio for the same thing, but I'm kinda Leary of the sliding doors, even tho the parking spot is right in front of the front door, so is the bedroom in the front part.

The both have their advantages, man hard choice to make.

When I give them my security deposit next week I got to decide on which one.

Top floor K, always better to have peace and no noise. The last apt I lived in here in Austin was quite nice, but unfortunately the neighbors upstairs had a kid with Down's syndrome, and he created a lot of noise. In our wonderful politically correct times we live in I was told the apt management could do nothing even though Leda and I were paying customers as well, it seems the management did not want a lawsuit. They should have been glad I did not bother to sue them!

I would go with the top floor. It is a lot more quiet.

Home depot sells some kickbutt window tint for homes, and yes, it does shut out a lot of the heat. As long as you do not have vaulted ceilings K you should be alright.

  • You don't have to live like a refugee.
Always better to be the "god of thunder" than to worship one.  (take the top floor and buy an air conditioner)

Myself I have nearly given up on the rental lifestyle, it is just so exploitve and depressing. Unfortunately I have no alternative as most squatters around here are killed for their trouble. <sigh> "Ownership" of little square pieces of the earth's surface is just so deeply wrong... leads to wars and all kinds of nasty stuff...

I lived on a top floor for two years while at the University.  Top floors are hotter than the downstairs, you also have to consider carrying everything from furniture to groceries.  Having an upstairs especially with a balcony will not prevent someone from breaking into your apartment.  I know that from locking my keys in the apartment one night, if my clumsy rear end can get into a window I'm sure someone motivated enough sure can.

I'm a top floor kinda guy, especially if your utilities are paid and you have central air.  Quieter, and a nice place to sit and read if you have a balcony.

Window tint is an excellent idea.  My apartment in town had this neat screen that would prevent anyone from seeing through the window from the outside during the daylight...didn't help at night when the lights were on, but that's what mini-blinds are for.

  • If I took the bones out, it wouldn't be crunchy.

There is no choice to be made here.  There is only one place to live in a communal building:  the top floor.

Do not let heat bother you.  Do not let stairs slow you down.  Get to the top floor as soon as you can and accept no substitute.

What with college, grad school, couple of short-term jobs, and then saving up for a downpayment, I spent 16 years in rented living space.  I was on the top floor for all but four of those years.  Those four were the worst four years of my life ever.  You do not want to hear someone walking over your head all day and night.

I always go ground floor.  In an apartment building, you have to worry about your neighbors setting your house on fire.  In case of fire or a tornado, want to be on the top floor or ground level?

Living in Phx, top floors are hotter but if you don't have exposure to the late afternoon sun then who cares? Many complexes forbid grilling on balconies for reasons that Dracho mentioned, but the 2nd floor isn't really all that high. If you've got stuff carry some rental insurance, I know nobody does but its not that expensive. I wouldn't live in a complex that used gas for cooking or heating, too many idiots in the world.

  • I'm not facist, I just like wearing jackboots
When I lived in an apartment the top floor was always the best. Also keep in mind, top floor units are always more secure. Thieves always go after the bottom floor units.
