Invisible ships and phasers in SFCOP
« on: June 12, 2005, 11:55:19 pm »
Just recently decided to start making ships for SFCOP again... but when I try to play, it doesn't show the ships or some of the weapons graphics.

I'm using XP with over 512 megs RAM, geF4, 2.5.5.2 OP; I've tried various releases of the detonator drivers, and I've tried tweaking sfc.ini.  Eventually I was able to get ships to show up in software mode, but that's (ugh) ugly.

I've also installed Pestalence's prettier-upper DLLs.

Why they would show up in software mode as opposed to hardware acceleration is beyond me...

That would suggest that the DOS path to the model is correct. Hmmm... the only thing I can suggest is to go over Pestlances's guide to OP that he was good enough to put together. It covers everything a man needs to have to get OP up and running...

Click the SFC Orion Pirates graphic at the top and it will give you his recommended guide to install OP. The only other problem I can think of doesn't seem to apply. However, the information for dealing with the CD key problem is easily enough found here on the Dynaverse forum.

Hope there is something in there to get you going.

Yeah, I uninstalled and started from scratch with his guide... same problems persist, though, with the addition of textures not appearing in software now (on most models).

I'm starting to think I should pull my old voodoo 2 out of mothballs and try that!

That's a stinker you have there.

You may already have the answer with the change in video hardware. Little doubt the computer you are trying to run SFC OP on now is a good bit more advanced than the one you used to use for SFC and modeling. But the darned thing just won't dance for you, now will it?. You would think that a updated system would be able to come through on such a small thing but apparently not.

If it makes you fell any better. My XP box does OP just fine but won't play the original Starfleet Command worth a flip.

Hope you can clear this hurdle without too much aggravation.
