Trying to change a mster drive to a slave drive
« on: June 08, 2005, 01:49:41 pm »
And I'm not having alot of luck.  The drive in question is an ATA drive, Made by Maxtor.
It's a few years old, 13.6 GB
Model 91362U3, HDA O3A, PCBA:12A, Unique:A3A, Code:FA500560
Master/single is on, slave is off.
This is most of the info printed on the drive.  Does anyone have a clue how I can set this drive as a slave drive?

Or fix this hole in a mother's son?
Can you heal the broken worlds within?
Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?

P.S.  I've been to the Maxtor site, and thus far I have not been able to find the iinfo I am looking for there.  I need some specific info, not just the regular try: www.maxtor.com stuff please.   :)

take the Pin off of Master/Single, and switch It to Slave. Use a pair of tweezers if you need to.

Then make sure your other Drive, the one you want to be a master, has the appropriate pin on It. Go into Bios, detect the Drive, and voila your good to go.

Thanks big steve, but I think I just found diagrams of what I needed, since I have no labels to tell how to do this otherwise.  Do you know what Slave w/CLJ is?  Should I go regular slave, or Slave w/CLJ?
I'm putting this guy into a powermac I just bought, since the master drive is only 10 gigs, so I thought I could use the extra 13 gigs.

Not sure on the CLJ thingie. I'd just go with normal Slave. If that doesn't work, then try the CLJ setting. This is a regular IDE drive and not a Sata or SCSI right? I'm assuming It is based on It's size.

As far as I can tell it's a regular ata drive.  Unfortunately, I have to wait now until my powermac is done installing OS X panther before I can try the new drive settign, shouldn't take more than 7 minutes from now though.  I don't think I told you about this little project pruchase I just made.  Gonna be fun!

While I wait for it to install the many hundreds of langauges, i'll fill you in:
I was getting a bit bored, and felt like a new computer project.  This powermac popped up in a swap list for the right price ($90), so I jumped on it.  It's an older model, G3 400 mHz, better known as the B&W (Blue and White) power mac, but it has alot of upgradability, so I thought I'd piece it together with all the good parts I could find.  I installed some RAM I had lying around in it this morning, I'll have the second HD installed in it soon, I hope, and then I'll start thinking about the real upgrades, income permitting.
I plan to install a DVD/CD-RW at minimunm, pump the RAM up to 1 gig, and install at least 4 drives into it- at least one drive will be 120 gigs or so.  I then plan to do something fun, but ultimately not very useful, which is to install every major revision of the mac OS that this computer will support.  Also, I plan to get my hands on a KVM switch so I can go between the powermac and my PC, and install an ethernet card so I can use this puppy as proper server machine.  That's for starters, anyways.  So far I'm partially on the way.

no doubt man, too bad you haven't gotten the entire thing done yet.  You and the mrs. could take a little dip in the cool water, sans bathing suits. ;)
