Glad you're alright, Mav.  That's the most important part.

This story sort-of reminds me of what my dad told me about an incident earlier this year:

He was driving down a highway when he saw a police car that pulled over a car for whatever reason.  I believe at the time there was construction going on, so there was a hold-up on traffic.  When my dad stopped, the car behind him crashed into his work truck.  My dad was okay, the work truck was okay, but the car behind him was smashed due to my dad's work truck's trailer hitch.  There was barely any scratch on the work truck.  It turns out the 16-year-old kid who drove the car was paying attention to the police, who witnessed the accident.  Heh, that was the best part (although I will note the kid was okay too).  My dad took pictures for business reasons on reporting an accident, and kept some copies for himself.

It also reminds me--on a darker note--of a bicycle accident I had nearly three years ago (July 3rd, 2002, a Wednesday evening).  I was bored, wanted to be away from parents, so I went cycling.  I cared not of any traffic flow (or apparent lack there-of) so I went crazy and felt the wind at a high speed, going down the hill of my street, making a long yet nearly death-defying right turn at the end of the hill to another street intersecting, avoided a parked car, and enjoyed the wind.  It felt nice, up until the death-bringing black SUV a woman was driving (past the speed limit no less) was on a collision course with me.
It all happened so sudden, so fast, and not a flash of memories before my eyes; The impact, the rolling around, hitting the pavement.  It didn't hurt that much until afterwards when I layed on the ground.  I was afraid that it was then that a stupid decision on my part to ignore something octagon in shape and red in color as much as how it was stupid for the woman to go flying past the speed limit (unsure of how fast, but it was almost as fast as how other people drive through there, 30, 40 MPH due to no stop signs until the end).  I moaned for someone close to me-yet so far away that I loved (to which I named my puppy after when I got her Christmas last year).
After the woman used her cell phone to call an ambulence (unsure if she called my mom or dad), I was trying to give her my name.  After a bit the ambulence came, used bandages around my head and one or two other areas.  When I looked at my feet, I noticed that my shoes were gone.  This was shockingly a reminder of how one Aaron Faukner--a 6th grader in my Junior High/Middle School and a fellow friend--died from an accident in 1997, the same year my grandfather died (which he did back in March, ten days after my birthday).  People were talking about it that morning-before Christmas vacation; how he was ran over by a truck, how his shoes flew away from his feet.  He didn't make it.  I, among many, couldn't go through school then, bawling to near-death about it.  It was sad and so stupid a death; He had so much potential.
Well, after that thought since my shoes flew off my feet (I found out later they were smothered in my blood).  I noticed my bike still there, and wondered if the bicycle would make it.  It didn't, it was gone.  And it was refitted with new wheels!  I was rushed to the hospital to get bandaged up.  There, I had stitches on my head so my head would be fixed up, as that was the major injury I had, and it wasn't that bad.  It somewhat reminded me of how I was care-free in my first grade classroom and accidentally got hurt and had my head split.  Ouch.  Minor injuries included a badly-bruised tailbone (or whatever you call it on the top of my bum inside), some scratches and other bruises.  After healing up from those scratches and head and a catscan or two, I was released, my parents who came there (my dad and his friend were at a Home Depot when they heard the news, and rushed to the Hospital, passing several red lights to get there) took me home.  I was given a tiny lecture before I looked at the stars and came home.
July 4th, 2002 wasn't so bad, being by myself, talking to my dad whilst looking at nearby fireworks lighting up the evening/night sky, having to walk awkwardly so not to hurt myself too much from the bruised tailbone...

So, all in all, I really feel for you Mav.

(Edit: Some grammar mistakes fixed.)

Sounds like you are very lucky to be alive Mav. Something you won't forget quickly and something you can tell your grandchildren about it one day when you're old and grey. Glad you're ok, get well soon!

Had a few scrapes myself with motorbikes over the years,(28 yrs ago for this one) and a really neet slide on my butt down the pavement.  That slide was only interrupted by 2 things.  1- a 2 inch diameter rock, which tore up my butt right beside the tailbone, and
2- a 6 inch high curb, which luckily I noticed and began rolling before I hit it.

Lucky for me I had a broken finger, bruised shoulder, torn up butt, scraped ankle.  Unlucky for my passenger, he was bleeding from the ears and a torn up butt(way worse than mine).  He was held in hospital for 2 extra days, then cleared to go home with no damage other than his really reallly torn up butt.  And this was in a slide at 35 MPH. with no vehicle in the way.  I have been injured way worse just on a 10 speed with vehicles involved than when no other vehicle is there.

I wish you the best in your recovery, and as told to you before, time will chase away the ghosts.  When the time comes for you to try another ride, the hardest part will be ther first 10 seconds.  After that, you will remember why you love to ride, and it will get easier really quick.  Only difference is, you might remember to really really watch for the guys who are either idiots, or just dont see you, a bit more.

You're just a big speed-bump, that what I always said!   ;D   I just never expected anyone to take advantage of it.   :o  (j/k)

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your accident.   Unfortunately, you joined a very large club of bikers who have been banged-up by idiots in cars.   It's amazing the number of bike accidents I have heard that sounded very similar to yours.   Well, except for the human speedbump part.   I hope you're recovering ok.   Our community just wouldn't be the same without the infamous Bucky!!

Question for ya.   Did the truck-driving idiot even stop?  I didn't see you mention it.   I realize that you had other things on your mind after the idiot ran over you, but I was just curious.

Take care of yourself.

second mistake you didn't lay the bike down and push away. (should be second nature )

Well I mostly did that just didn't do it right lol... I ditched the bike and it did what it was supposed to, it missed the truck. Unfortunately I didn't go where I wanted to =\
That SOB has Zero damage to his truck because of that I kinda wish I managed to take the bike right into his truck. But that would be mean and I'm not that type of person... (Like hell)

doin any better I hope so,well just to let ya know I my self have 2 plates and about 87 screws in my right leg after a manuver kinda like yours but it was the secound car that ran over my leg some how the driver( a women) didnt see the large bike slam into the car that turnd infront of me nor did she see the large man in the bright red and black helment in the middel of the road. now I could posably under stand her not seeing me if she was in a truck, or a large SUV or even in a big car but come on she was in a freking VW Rabbit I am biger than her whole dam car!! and at the time was in damn good shape. any way the moral of the story is this no matter how long you have riden or even if you do everything right to save your butt you still have to watch out for the other guys and often nothing goes right.

oh and one more thing get back on a bike as soon as you are able even sooner if posable, and the replays will stop takes time the minde must heal also my friend oh and a little trick I learnd is when the light turns green count out 3 sec.

feel better my friend

The driver didn't stop at first from what I was told a couple people in a car went a chased him down and told him they called the cops and that if he knew what was good for him to come back.

Yeah, I'm doing good. Starting back at both jobs on Monday going to be hell being on my feet that long but can't go without making some money at this point. The fight with the insurance company and this guy should be starting very soon. Never had experience with this type of deal so I'm hoping I get out off it alright and get what was damaged repaired or replaced and hopefully comp'ed for the time off from work. Can't wait to see how it pans out lol

All and all doing great though I'm mobile and pain is no worse than how I've felt after a couple of my more interesting football games lol so now I'm just counting my lucky stars and going to get back to the grind. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
