In the olden days, defined as when I deployed overseas right after 911, I had a laptop and SFC, so I spent what free time I had happily modding the game as best I was able, grabbing ship mods and playing around with the other files. That laptop has since died, as has its replacement, and I find myself trying to recreate all of that stuff for my third trip overseas since then. It'll be another few months before I can get rid of enough stuff on the drive to install SFC:OP again, but I'd like to start playing around with some changes I already know I want to do.
So, I looked around. In those long lost days I was able to find things like the strings and shipnames converted to actual text files and the ship lists for the versions available at the time. Now I don't see such. Does anyone know of that sort of thing still being out there? I was able to find EAW strings and shipnames, but those don't have all of the bits I need to change if I'm to do this.
Any suggestions as to where those files can be found, or shall I just keep a notepad of intended changes and hope for the best?
