Star Wars Mod SFC1 Conversion Request
« on: May 31, 2005, 04:56:50 pm »
Greetings,

Last Friday, (05-27-2005), I noticed that Star Wars models were being uploaded at the Battleclinic.com.  Unfortunately, not all of them are for SFC1 and I only have SFC1.  I was wondering if someone could convert the Millenium Falcon and X Wing Fighter created by Kreeargh for SFC1?  I sent him an email Saturday requesting the conversion of his mods to SFC1, but I have not gotten a response from him yet.

Here are the links to mods:

1.  Millenium Falcon - http://www.battleclinic.com/docks/files/dist/index.php/file,8212488c05ba4e9223b0684628a4d972.zip

2.  X Wing Fighter - http://www.battleclinic.com/docks/files/dist/index.php/file,a6618803c7302c0475b25efa0aaf1ce9.zip

Kreeargh has been missing for about three months. We haven't seen or heard anything from him since February. If someone wants to convert those ships for you I think that would be fine.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that our site is paid until the 3rd of June. ModelsPlease has uploaded almost everything from the site to Battleclinic, so you should still be able to find almost everything there. Some downloads on our site no longer work because I had to make room on it a few days ago to transfer some unfinished ships.. We're trying to scrape up a few bucks (36 of them) so that we can get the site back up as soon as possible. Until then, we'll be posting stuff on our forum so that everyone can keep tabs on what's going on.

Thanks ModelsPlease, but I am currenly using P81's X Wing Fighter until somebody converts Kreeargh's X Wing Fighter to SFC1.  I downloaded P81's X Wing Fighter on either Friday Night or Saturday Morning from battleclinic.com and installed it on my PC on Sunday.  It is acceptable, but Kreeargh really did an accurate and oustanding job when he created his X Wing Fighter.  No offense P81.  Sorry ModelsPlease that I did not mention this in my previous post.  By the way, I happened to notice that you did not upload Kreeargh's Star Wars Shuttle to battleclinic.com, why is that?  Here is a link to Kreeargh's Star Wars Page, even though the models cannot be downloaded from it at this time, it has a picture of the Shuttle that I am speaking of on it.

Kreeargh's Star Wars Model Page - http://sfcmodsrus.0catch.com/starwars.html
The Shuttle is at the bottom of the page on the left side above the Death Star.

Thanks Again,

I spoke with Rage about the Tyderium shuttle on that page and he's not sure where it is, but it's unavailable as of now. As for an SFC1 conversion ? I may stand corrected but all you need to do is remove the light maps from the SFC II ship you wish to use, as SFC 1 ships are unlit. Then it should work fine.

Thanks ModelsPlease, but I did do exactly that and unfortunately it did not work.  I can look at them with the Taldren MOD Viewer, but SFC1 will not display them in the game.  For example, Falcon.MOD crashes SFC1 (I guess this is the SFC3 version) and Falcon.x.MOD does not appear in the game (I guess this is the SFC2 version), but atleast Falcon.x.MOD does not cause SFC1 to crash.  The same thing happened for his Xwing.MOD and Xwing.x.MOD.  This happened for both versions of both models with and without the light maps.

Thanks again sir,

You may want to email member Alec Theorhaven, his screen name here at dynaverse.net is atheorhaven.  He has a thread here labeled "Topic: TOS FCA Connie pack and registries for SFC 1, SFC 2, and SFC 3 up".  In this thread he states "For me, it takes roughly three minutes to back convert a SFC 2 mesh to SFC 1 mesh now..   (And most of that is deleting the illumination textures before the mesh fixes).. ".  Here is a link to his "Mare Imbrium Shipyards" Web Page, http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/html/alec/f10000.htm .  You can click on his dynaverse.net member profile and get his email address.

Hope this helps,

I figured that the two games handle the meshes slightly differently because ususally when I import SFC1 models into 3ds max, either the normals are all flipped or the ships are solid black.  Do I need an older plugin to get these to work correctly?

Did you happen to get the work bees? I know he posted them for download, but I can't remember if the site was updated with them.

I also looked for that shuttle again, but no luck finding it. My guess is that he forgot to upload it, or his upload timed out on him since he was on dialup.

I don't know but Alec Theorhaven (screen name atheorhaven) should be able to answer your questions regarding this.  I sent you a private message containing Alec's email address in order for you to ask him your questions.

I'm reading the thread guys... just haven't responded yet.  :)

If you guys want to include a download link to the ships you want done here, I can backconvert them to SFC 1.  And it does take more than just deleting the light maps from the directory, you also have to remove any calls to those textures and pointers in the mesh file to them.  I just can't promise to be speedy, I get limited time to model at home due to my job now.  :p

But again, I've got it down to three mintues now.. I've backconverted 7 of Lord Schupp's ships to SFC 1 since the request was made a few days back.. was just waiting to get them all done before I uploaded them.  :)

LOL got 'em now and will post 'em a Battleclinic. Ya know Navigator ya really should get SFC II/OP. Firesoul imported ALL the SFC 1 missions to SFC II/OP so ya wouldn't miss out on anything and you ya wouldn't have to worry about such a limited number of ships to import to game either.

ModelsPlease,

Believe me I would love a copy of SFC2:EAW and SFC2:OP, but unfortunately my PC is too old to run them and if I were to buy a new PC I don't know if these two games would run successfully under WindowsXP.  I have played SFC1 on my brother's PC under WindowsXP and have experienced some problems, but was still able to play the game.

I suppose I could reconfigure a new PC with a dual boot option between Windows98 and WindowsXP, but right now I cannot afford a new PC.  Also, I doubt that either of these games are still available for purchase from a reputable source.  Perhaps on E-Bay maybe, but I have never bought anything from anyone on E-Bay and would perfer to avoid that situation.

Thanks for the info though,

Thanks again, but I should have been more specific, I do have Win98 SE, that is not the problem.  The problem is that it is a laptop and I don't have a fast enough processor (AMD K6-2 400 MegaHertz equivalent to a Pentium 2) and probably not enough memory.  I did expand the memory from 32 Megabytes by adding a 128 Megabye chip giving me 160 Megabytes but I have dedicated 8 Megabytes to Video Memory leaving me 152 Megabytes of RAM.

It also only has a 4 Gigabyte hard drive partitioned into 2 logical drives, 3 Gig on C: drive and 1 Gig on D: Drive.  Most of my files are burned to CD-ROM because I cannot fit all of my files onto the C: Drive at the same time and play SFC1 on it.  The CD Burner is connected to the USB Port 2.0 PCMCI Card.  I only have about 700 Megabytes of free space on my C: Drive with additional files burned to CD-ROM disks.  Plus I don't know if they sell graphics acceleration cards for laptops for the PCMCI slot and if they do I don't know if it would work on my old laptop.  Believe me I have been looking to buy a 20 Gigabyte internal (laptop) hard drive to replace my old 4 Gigabyte internal (laptop) hard drive.

Sorry to bore you with these details,

Thanks.  This is really helpful.  I got my feet wet with SFC modding by adding ships to SFC3.  After I came across several ships for SFC2 and BC that I wanted, I learned every aspect of converting a ship to SFC3 (and am pretty damn good at it if I do say so myself).  I've been wanting to expand my converting abilities to all SFC games, but I was stuck on the original SFC.  Thanks for the help.

Okie for Navigator and everyone else that may still play SFC 1, I've begun to upload all the old SFC 1 ships I have on my HD to Battleslinic. There are some great, and not so great (anymore) designs, but alot of the concepts are still solid and perhaps they will inspire some new ships based on the old designs. And if ya didn't already have 'em, now ya do !

And here as well ...................

I just ask the same thing that I always ask... send me a screenshot of them ingame with you using and enjoying them.  That's all I ask.  ;)

(I added no credits to this because all I did was a conversion, but have done so without the ability to contact the author.  Not wanting people to believe I did this original model and am claiming credit, I'm not claiming any in the dox).

Thanks again Alec.  I will install them tonight when I get home and email you a screenshot picture of them.

Please do so... that way I get feedback that the conversion worked.  :)

Okay Alec, here is a link to a picture of them.  That way you can just download it from here (Left click on link, then Right click on picture, and select "Save Target As...") instead of me emailing it to you and it possibly getting marked as junk mail and thus you not getting it.

No problemo, I posted the last of my SFC1 stuff earlier today so now it's all at Battleclinic.

Don't bother checking out my website for the most recent updates, because I've
been too lazy to update it!  Check Battleclinic!
