God, I love those games!

I just played through the same sequence three times on KoTOR 2, just because I liked it! ;D

The exploding keyboard on Dantooine made me learn to save early and often. :-[

I hate it when I forget to save.  Especially when I just went through a long period of weapons tinkering and levelling up.

Lost three hours of progress the other night because I got so caught up in the story I forgot to hit 'Esc'.

God I'm an addict.  Though oddly, Silent Hunter III still calls to me as if it were the One Ring.

Yeah, forgetting to save is one of the ultimate pains of gaming.

I loved KOTOR, and wish there was a Trek rpg game that was of this quality, out on the market.

heh, I have not yet gotten KOTOR II but i did load up the original last night. Saw 7 hours of my life sucked away and I didn't even notice it.

Yet at the same time I'll probally play shIII tonight to get my fix for it.

I hate being addicted to different things, it's like allways being in withdrawal.

KOTOR II was a let down compared to the original. Still fun to play, however.

I'm enjoying it so far. I don't like the fact that you can't keep good influence with your best fighters (Handmaiden) and I wish that I could just chop of the old space witch's head... but it's still nice to see them thinking in terms of inter-personal relationships in an RPG. It makes the story a bit better.

Though I need to find a way to kiss and make up with Handmaiden. Her 'STFU' attitude isn't changing no matter how many butts I kick. I keep  gaining influence with her, but she's still all 'get out of my face' when I try to talk to her.

The blind chick is cool, though sa is the addition of the Sith War Sword- especially the double-bladed one. *makes up someD20 stats for thar one* Now I just have to figure out how to get through the poltline as an evil SOB as compared to the light-mastery option.

Try kicking the Handmaiden's butt in a controlled situation.  That'll actually get you some influence as long as you're not belligerent about it (ask her to teach you some combat moves when she's practicing in the Ebon Hawk's cargo hold).

She also likes you to be a nice guy, so when you're feeling benevolent have her in the party with you.

LOL... right now she just says "I ain't talkin to you, get the hell outta my face you bastage." I can't even ask her to fight.

Oh, BTW... I made a save point at the place where you get the guy to do the 'unequipped bungie jump'.

Damn!  I've never pissed any of my companions off to that degree!  I'm kind of envious. I wish I could've shut Carth up all through the first KoTOR.

And yeah, saving near that spot is a great stress reliever...I find the fatal plummet to be...soothing...

There's something called "The Kreia effect". Basically if Kreia is in the party the way you influence people changes. I don't understand exactly how it works, as i never looked into it. I just hated her so much I never had her with me.  Once you get into the game, you'll find there are a lot, a LOT of stories they wanted to tell but ran out of time to put in. The game is sorely missing some parts.

Not the fault of Obsidian, however.  They got kinda screwed scheduling wise it seems.

Yeah, I noticed that too when I did a quest on Nar Shaddaa, then died stupidly and tried the same thing with Kreia in the party.  I sad something to her, and got influence with Atton, where I hadn't before.

I'm at the climax.  So far, I have to say it's as good as the first KoTOR.  It doesn't so much feel like stuff is 'missing' per se, but more like it's only AS good as the first, not better....still an incredible game, but I'll bet the devs were more ambitious than that.

I find Mira, Mandalore, and the Handmaiden fascinating.  Would liked more of all three of 'em.

What about the HK's? Ever tried to pursue them? Go ahead, I dare you!

Also, if you're at the climax you're not at the end. The end is everything but climactic. One you beat the game you'll know what I mean.

The more I say the more I sound like I hate it, but I really had a great time playing it, I just wanted another "Game of the Year".

I just beat it.  I found it climactic, but I coulda used more of a wrap-up.

I don't so much mind the loose ends.  Good fodder for a sequel. ;D

On Nal Shadar, while rescuing the Jedi there... 'squid' is slang for the guy's species. He's the Exchange boss for the planet.

KOTOR has tempted me many times to get an XBox.  I cant justify it though.  Right now hooked up i have SNES, GC, PS1, PS2; ready to be hooked up in a few mins,  SMS (Sega Master System), Genesis.  Handheld 1 GBA:SP, 1 GBA.  Random Game Gear somewhere.

Beyond KOTOR, and Halo (which i have no interest in); i dont know any Xbox games

KOTOR is a PC game too ya know. I'd say better on the PC, but thats just me.

And I know what you mean now. Nar Shaddah is ridiculously bug ridden.

Somehow i dont think KOTOR will play on a 833mhz Duron 256meg ram w/ onboard shared memory video ;)

I dont have access to a gaming rig - and probably wont be able to afford to get a gaming rig - even a bargain one for the forseeable future.  Changing jobs 2x in the past 3 months, and moving in August + bills/rent cuts out any mid-large ticket pricing.

Especially since there's only a couple games im interested for PC besides SFC2/OP. C&C Red Alert 2 etc, CivIII, KOTOR, EV:Nova.  (Ok, i might be able to play EV:Nova on this pc.  I'd still rather play it on a Mac Mini or IBook.

Actually, I'd venture that Carney's talking about the difficulty, not the bugs, since I too forgot to rank fair Mira's stealth score up and paid the price in frustration.  Possibly the most difficult sequence in the game if you can't sneak through it.

I just blasted through it. That's just my style though. Didn't have any major troubles, just make sure you save after every 'engagement' in case you need to reload. I know i did a few times.

Ah, that's not that fun for me.  I tend to get sucked into the storyline and keep playing until I die then realize it's been two hours since I saved.

There are obvious downsides to this method, though it DOES make me appreciate any game that frequently auto-saves.

I meant just that one sequence. I usually try and not blast everything in sight actually, but i was just so PO'ed at that whole set up I kinda locked and loaded.

Grenades and mines are wonderful things, espescially with Mira's ability to shoot grenades at enemies and walk through mines.

Wy fight?

When you are outnumbered, just sneak. I even did it with the Jedi PC on the way to the squid.

And I guess that I'm just the opposite- I tend to kill EVERYTHING that is evil (though no innocents). I wiped out everyone in the bar, and every Serco thug. The only reason that I didn't kill all the Exchange the first time is that you can't.

I just realized that it would take eery medpack in my inventory to get that girl through it fighting without a Force-user in the party heal her, so I played conservatively and kept my stuff.

Yeah, I did end up using a lot of the mines I'd retrieved on that one.  Made things a lot easier though I still wish I'd made her a little sneakier when I levelled her up.  Love that little wrist launcher, too.  Those Ubese guards aren't nearly so formidable once you tranquilize them.

I hereby officially curse every one of you to a 386 based computer for a month.  Went to load KOTOR.  Only one teensy problem.  By scrimping on my vid card (being poor sucks), I don't have adequate support.  So, those vile, smelly Jedi are safe for two more weeks.

That's my system specks.  I quite honestly believe my system just needs a good video card.  Nothing more.

Indeed I am forced to agree. Depending on the money you want to spend, I would recommend a 96 or 9800xt with 256mb of RAM (those are both mid range for right this moment)

For upperclass, go for the Nvidia 66/6800's. Excellent cards. Kinda pricey though.

Heh.  I am looking at the 9250 sapphire right now.  I'll update it later, as I know I'll need to.

Right now i can run any game out there w/ no sweat at all. and i also had a limited budget to work w/. upgraded mobo, CPU, P/S, HDD, RAM, and video card.

OK, I just finished the game. Scion and Keria are pretty tough... though fighting Scion THREE TIMES (WTF?) got a little monotonious. Keria was better, but the only way for my Watchman to beat either was a lot- and brother, I mean a LOT- of 'drive-bys' using Force Push and Force Speed. Run up, shove them accross the room, and run off before they could counter attack.

Long and tedious, and maybe a little bit sneaky, but effective all the same. ;)

The end is rather abrupt; I was at least hoping that my hero would get to do a bit of obligatory post 'save-the-galaxy' face-sucking with Visas, my pick of the 'alien babe of the week' co-stars.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR LA'RA- Even up to the bitter end, Handmaiden STILL refused to speak to me!
The only time that she would say something other than 'I have nothing to say to you. Leave me.' was during the mandatory storyline events.

Also, I was rather depressed not to learn every bit of the backstory- but that just means I'll have to play again to do so.

Handmaiden was hard to get to open up, but if you ask her to train you that helps.

I'm wondering:  How did you build your character?  Did you go the two-weapon route?  The final fights were tough for me too, and I'm wondering how our experiences compare.

Yeah, I would've liked a wrap-up sequence.  I hope that instead of another ten-year skip, KoTOR 3 ties into this one more directly than this one did to it's sequel so some of the loose ends and unresolved plotlines can be explored there.  I got the definite impression that were intending such a thing, but one never knows what'll make it into the next edition.

I really did want to help HK hunt down his...poor imitations. ;D

I did like Visas, but my big problem with the game is that despite an obvious attraction, you couldn't put the moves on Mira. ;D

I have to admit, I'm wondering what the hell you did.:)  With the possible exception of Mira or Bao Dur, she was the character that opened up to me with the least effort.  Probably has a lot to do with our respective dialogue choices.

Yeah, me too.  I found out a great deal of it, but didn't realize how much I might be missing until I lost a save and ended up picking a different dialogue option with Atris.  She revealed something I'd been wondering about after that and I thought to myself 'how much more information is lurking in there'?

Awesome game.  It does have it's flaws, but I'm exceptionally happy with it.  In many ways I thought it was superior to KoTOR 1, though the unpolished ending and the plot holes make me judge both about equally with KoTOR being the 'really good, nothings really wrong' type of game whereas KoTOR 2 was more of the 'masterpiece but with bigger flaws' type.

I certainly liked the characters in KoTOR 2 more than those in the first, with the possible exception of Bastilla, and of course those who also joined your party in this one, no matter what name they were going by.  Heh.
