Problem
« on: May 21, 2005, 04:12:30 pm »
Hey all, my buddy knob is trying to get on the mirror server, when he selects it from the server list and clicks join he gets a black screen and then dropped to desktop. Has anyone encountered this before? He is not going through a router and has the permissions on his software firewall (McAffee) as he played some on GW5.
Any help appreciated!

I'll put forward the mcafee shut down idea.
If he didn't do the directory server update he wouldn't have seen any servers.

I was in a game vs Soreyes. I was destroyed and crashed to dtop. When I logged back in I still had the same ship.

Thought I should report this. Is it a connection problem or a bug?

When you crash to desktop, your loss of ship is not recorded in the campaign even though you lost your ship.  It will happen everytime you crash to desktop.  Perhaps  you should SD that ship, then start anew with what they give you, as your ship was destroyed.  This is what I would do, but not sure on if there is an actual ruling of this situation.

Whenever that happens to me, I usually go back to the same hex to SD...that way they also get the up or down in defense too !

Umm it was Jar Jar Soreyes, Darth Soreyes is a different player  ;)  Whenever A pilot crashes out of a mission he retains his ship as it was beofre the mission, if you lose it the proper thing to do is to self destruct it on the same hex.  Darth Wraith was a true sportsman and did just that.

I seem to have a problem when Im being drafted. I can be drafted by one player but when im drafted and there are multiple players involved I crash to desktop.

If I am doing the drafting there is no problem and can draft 2 v 2 with no hastle.

Any ideas?

The person with the best connection sould do the drafting.. people on dial-up should not even think of drafting.

Also, last person in hex should do the drafting (should also have the best connection if at all possible, or best connection for their side).

Finally those who are being drafted, you need to click MAP then click Missions, then select the mission. This will help ensure that you choose th correct mission in which you were drafted.

Also, if you are using an Active Anti-Virus, SHUT IT OFF TO PLAY A GAME ONLINE.. not just SFC, but any game. This prevents packet loss when playing and keeps games real time when playing... Anti-Virus may block and slow down game information packets which in return will cause lag and drops in game.

Finally, make sure that your 3rd party Firewall is configured correctly or shut off and that Windows Firewall is disabled in Services.msc and also Universal Plug and Play is disabled in services.msc.

P.S. also keep your Video and sound card drivers up to date from the manufaturer of your video card or sound card.. if you have an MSI made Radeon card, you would go to ATI as radeon is an ATI chipset, as such ATI has your drivers.. same goes for GeForce.. go to NVidia and get the latest drivers.

Plus make sure that your system is up to date and has a fully installed and valid version of DirectX 9.0c.
