It's amaseing what you find in thrift store's
« on: May 11, 2005, 02:24:50 pm »
My other monitor went on the blink and I went shopping at a local thrift store and got the one I'm using now for 4 bucks Nice little 17in monitor, Got a toaster for 3 bucks. Also saw a few printers and copiers too for 5 0r so bucks a piece. couldn't afford them at the time so I might go back next week to see if they are still there.

Also saw a sofa and table and a few chairs too so if I can get a living room set and kitchen set for cheep I'm all for it. Looks like all they needed was cleaned up a little.

And I also saw a bunch of old windows 3.1 5.1 disks too along with dos 6.22 may just pick those up as well. Just never know what you might find in a thrift store.

Be careful of the disks, they could be corrupted, disks go bad very very easily.  One of those gambles I'd imagine where you could get it for a bargain, or get ripped off.

I got an 18 year old VCR for $9 from a thrift store, and it works better than my '94 Magnavox!

...easier to set the clock, too

Hey speaking of old programs, I found a website where you can download old computer games.  I downloaded a few I remembered from back in the day, some microprose titles (f19, red storm rising), but I cant get them to install.  Anyone have any idea if I need to run another program to get them compatible with my windows xp?  I can supply more details, but I figured someone might have gone this route before.

Thanks
Villa

Have you tried DOSBox?  I've used it to get Wing Commander: Privateer to run on XP.

I've heard DosBox is good, but I've never been able to get anything to run on it.  It keeps looking for my Z drive, and I can't get it to register other drives!

I had to copy the entire CD to the C: drive and then map the folder as a network drive.

If you use DOSBox, make sure you check the compatibility list as some games work better than others.
