Question about SFB X2 ships...
« on: May 08, 2005, 06:48:08 pm »
I'm hoping somone can give me a little info about X ships.  I was told that Steve Cole pulled X2 ships from SFB because they where "Cheesy" or in other words too god like.  But I was under the impression that he was trying to "fix" X2 ships and republish them at a later date.  Am I wrong about this?  I know people complain that X2 ships in OP are Cheesy, but are they that bad in SFB too?

Also, I was told that X2 ships actually where introduced before the Doomsday edition.  When where they introduced?

Here's the way that I heard it.

Yes, X2 was pre-doomsday. X2 wasn't pulled, per say. It just hasn't ever been done balanced for post doomsday.

SVC, et al, wanted the X rules to reflect TMP, but Paramount stopped it by saying that ADB's license only covers TOS (and possibly the 1st movie, because X1 is based off of the 1st movie). Since then X2 has been in limbo.
If Romulans aren't cowards, then why do they taste like chicken?

So X2 is not caneled, just postponed?  Is that why some of the techs discussed to be in X2 might be a lot different then whe we see in Star Trek?  For example, I read on a message board once that SVC wants to have a unique weapon that all races use on X2 ships, but is not a Phaser or weapon per say.

Well its been about fifteen years so I'd say cancelled is the word. The original X2 ships were in the books when they were still in three volumes. When Doomsday rolled around they presented some streamlined X1 rules and promised a module to address X2, but I got out of the game around then and never checked up on it. I still have the old rules around here somewhere.

So they have played around with the idea of making a Doomsday module for X2 ships, but there is nothing offical right?  So some of the fan sites I have seen that have X2 ships they custom built with tech like PH-5's, Batteries that give 3 points of power instead of 1, and other tech is not offical, correct?

And what about the X1 tech that shiped with Advanced missions?  Is that strictly X1 stuff and has nothing to do with X2?

2X ships were pre-Doomsday, and like the Commander's Edition ISC and Andromedans, they were way over the top. When Doomsday came out, the Andys and ISC were fixed because they were a big part of the SFB universe, while Second Generation X was an optional module that took place years after the rest of the SFB timeline. Our group messed with them once, got bored, and went back to regular SFB.

As for SVC bringing them back, I doubt he will unless there's a big demand for 2X ships, and the added rules that'll come with them.
