The modding of Starfleet command 3
« on: May 04, 2005, 12:45:57 pm »
hey guys

just getting back into the swing of sfc modding its been awhile just need to know a few things

1. have we worked out how too get more then the 4 races in sfc3?

all i found is in the RaceNames.gf

Name = "RaceNames"

// These are used whenever race names are needed.  They are the ONLY place you must change these names.
// They MUST match the order of the races.  Modders, this one's for you.

[FullEmpireNames]
0   = "United Federation of Planets"
1   = "Klingon Empire"
2   = "Romulan Star Empire"
3   = "Borg Collective"

4   = "Species 8472"
5   = "Cardassian Union"
6   = "Ferengi Alliance"
7   = "Rakellians"
8   = "Pirates"
9   = "Contested Sector"

10   = "All Races"

[ShortEmpireNames]
0   = "Federation"
1   = "Klingon"
2   = "Romulan"
3   = "Borg"

4   = "Species8472"
5   = "Cardassian"
6   = "Ferengi"
7   = "Rakellian"
8   = "Pirate"
9   = "Neutral"

10   = "All"

showing a few races but even removeing the gap between 3 and 4 there dont show up
in the race select menu?

if anyone knows how too add more please post

2.ship specs

been looking into trhis for awhile today seems only the weapons/engines/ete  can be used cant seem too add new ones the the .gf
files which is a shame

any more that can be done?

Hey DD

Despite the likes of Dominion Wars Mod and the 9 Player Race Map, we're still only limited to 4 playable races.

And, so far as I'm aware, we still can't add new weapons etc.

inorder to add weapons/races you have to hack the .exe, which is impossible

Yes, the guide is a good one for beginers and pros needing a refresher cource. You can only have 4 playable races, which is unfortunate. I was able to make a 5th race playable in single player (it crashes in Dynaverse) however the 5th race has no ability to refit as no items show up in the refit section. Adding weapons is still a no go. You can copy an item that I have tried. Here's my example, you can copy something like the Cloak, you can't change it's name but you can  change it's attributes. Like you can add a cloak V to be available only to Federation without taking out the item for the other race. I've only limited tested this, so it could run into problems if you over use it.

Please tell us how to add the fifth race.

Sure it's singleplayer only but it'd be nice to play with the Borg and Dominion at the same time, or atleast give one SFC2 race a nice little home of its own.

It's easy to do, but like I said you can't refit and I was unable to acually buy a ship, of cource I didn't stay in there long enough to generate ships. But what you can do is in the individual Campaign scripts, you can copy a script and change the race to read 0=5 and you can play as Rakellian (or what ever race you put in the 5th slot). Not being able to refit your ships could end up being a problem in the long run unfortunately. You will have to manually outfit yourship in the Default Loadout, then you can play it.

oh yeah.. duh, I forgot a step. in the Character GF file in your MetaAssets/Server Profiles/Singleplayer you will have to add in the name of a ship in the race your wanting. (IE if you have Ferengi as a 5th race slot, then you will have to add Maurader or another ship that you've added.

// Starting ships for players (sorted by RACE)
[StartingShips/0]
0   = "Norway"
1   = "K'Vort"
2   = "Falcon"
3   = "Diamond"

// Here for completeness ONLY
4   = "Maurader"
5   = "NO SHIP"
6   = "NO SHIP"
7   = "NO SHIP"
8   = "NO SHIP"
9   = "NO SHIP"

In this example you would put 0=4 in the Campaign script (assuming that you have Ferengi in the 5th slot there) hope this helps.

thanks for the info guys

so really no way of adding in the exrtra race slots a real shame :(
been adding alot of ships last few days to the 4 main races game is looking good
just shame other races will have to share race slots

other idea i had is diffrent install 4 races too each alot of work just to play diffrent races
if you ask me so much for sfc3 being the the easyiest to mod its far harder then op ever was

DD, it's only harder because it got more complex with the ability to refit ships.

There was Core Edit, but it never got past a bare beta version, then it just disappeared.  Didn't really work well for me anyway, cause it was so incomplete, but I would love to see it finished, or another program just like it written up that works wonders.  It would really cut down on spec time.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.
