A different kind of EAW CDkey problem

(1/1)

nyrath:
My copy seems to have a valid CD key on the jewel box (format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), but it won't let me type it in.
There is a cute intro movie narrated by George Takei.
The dialog appears, I click the cursor on the textbox, a vertical blinking cursor appears in the textbox.

But then any key I type just makes a beep tone, and no characters appear in the text box.

Applying the 2.5.5.2 patch changes nothing.

I'm running Windows XP home edition (5.1 build 2600)  with Service Pack 2, DirectX 9.0c

Does anybody have any idea what's wrong?

nyrath:
False alarm, never mind, go back to what you were doing.
I tried it again for the tenth time and it suddenly decided to work. Go figure.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Make a new desktop shortcut pointing to Starfleet2.exe

Do not use the SFC2.exe, it is bugged and causes multiple program based bugs.

Also.. since you are installing EAW..

before you patch the game..

go into your Starfleet Command EAW folder and go into Assets then into Scripts.

make a copy of Uni_7BattleGrave.scr in a directory outside the game folder..

then patch to latest version 2036.

then copy the backup you made of Uni_7BattleGrave.scr back into the scripts folder and over write the one that is there.. for some reason the script in patch 2036 is bugged where the unpatched script works flawlessly.
