For a first in a long while, I guess I'll be watching Enterprise, let alone taping it.  It does prove to be interesting-enough an episode to give it a try.

I just finished watching it.  Not all of it though (cooking dinner), but enough to know that, if you're a Trek fan that can set aside the many discontinuities Enterprise has done, it is a great episode tying two TOS episodes together in a knot, and of all the Enterprise episodes, it's the most interesting, probing the darker side of the Star Trek universe.  I liked how the Tholians were rendered in the episode, from the web effect and the ships to that one Tholian that was tortured (and I had some sympathies for).  I didn't expect the Tholian to look exactly like that, but it's interesting.  And there were a great many more things I liked as well about the episode.  Overall, I really enjoyed the episode, in my opinion one of the most shining of Enterprise, if you have an open mind for an action-packed episode that probes in the Mirror Universe, that is.  It may not be some of the thought-provoking episodes of Star Trek that gets me into it, but it brought the kid in me, the one that likes the action-packed episodes, too.

Well, just to break it down to bullet points:

* Acting: Terrific, top notch.  They really got into their characters, making them both similar and disimilar to their normal counterparts.

* Writing: Excellent, excellent, excellent.  Sussman's said in the past that this was a real labor of love for him, and it shows in how it turned out.

* Visual FX: Egads, the one real weakness of the whole show.  The Imperial guy on the moon, the Tholian, the Imperial paintjob on the ship, all looked terrible.  The Defiant was adequate, if innacurate, but nothing spectacular or special.  Score one for the "models are better than CGI" crowd.  About the only thing that looked nice was the Tholian web, but given how simplistic it was in TOS, that'd be the hardest thing to get wrong.

* Set design: Where the VFX people failed, these guys succeeded and thensome, bringing their best to the table by not only redressing NX-01 for the Mirror Universe, but also recreating a Consitution-class ship interior from scratch.  These guys deserve an Emmy for set design.

The ensignia on the Enterprise worked for me. As a visual cue it was well done and spoke volumes.

In fact, in my mind, it was the icing on the cake of the montage prolog. Kudos to those involved in this episode. It will most likely be considered the best of the best of all episodes.

It was really fun sitting there with my kid watching just the intro. alone! I had explained to her the concept of a parallel universe and when the intro. started she just looked at me in a state of amazement.

One of the best episodes for Enterprise. Makes me wonder what would have happened if they had started out with the quality of the episodes from the final season at the start of the series.

They changed up the schedule around here from Saturday to Friday so I missed the episode. I'm not a happy camper right now.

I watched and it and loved it. I held my breath when they walked onto the Defiant's bridge and turned the power on. The SOUNDS were perfect.

I did miss part of the intro to the episode. I thought it was the standard intro until I walked back into the room and the Enterprise was blowing up everything in sight.

I never had a look at the credits at all: It was that side bar thing with the previews of other UPN shows.  I wish I had a look at the end credits and the music composed for it.  I loved the intro, though.

Boy-oh, this is a bittersweet count down

I'm with you Toast.  I enjoyed EVERYTHING about the episode, but it hurt to know that it's essentially over.

I got a blast out of the planting of the Imperial flag on the moon.

I sort knew Cochrane was going to kill the Vulcan, but still, the scene horrified me.  Great job all around on this ep.

Okay, I admit, the first part was good, but the second part, I got bored with it.  After Archer decides to go to earth to 'do away with the leadership' what happened?  Basically I got bored, got on a computer, got absorbed by what was going on in a computer game and missed the end.

A bit of a cop-out ending, really. He gets poisoned by his less than trustworthy consort, Hoshi, and she ends up taking over the Empire as Empress Sato. Not the worst ending out there, but they could have done more with what they had.

Thanks, that's disappointing.  I liked the evil Archer much more than the other characters overall.  I thought Hoshi's evil twin was one of the weaker ones.  Oh well, I suppose I didn't miss too much.  Thanks for the ending info.

I actually liked it, it wasn't a dissapointment.   It's a MU element done cleverly, where Hoshi saw an advancement opportunity and took it.  Think of it as "Revenge of the Little People".

My problem wasn't with the revelation (which is a nice little nod to Intendent Kira's position of power on the Mirror DS9), but with how rushed it all felt towards the end.  A lot of the episode had that unstructured and unfocused feeling to it, where it felt like it was just a series of unconnected events, followed by an effort to cram another half an hour's worth of story into ten minutes of show.  If I had to rank these two episodes against all the other Mirror Universe tales, Part One definately would rank up there with "Mirror, Mirror."  Part Two, on the other hand, trends towards the bottom, perhaps narrowly pulling ahead of "The Emperor's New Cloak."

Oh, but you must give it credit for those excellent space battle scenes when the Evil Archer breaks the U.S.S. Defiant away from the Tholian dock!  Superb sequence, it was.  The alien crewmember uprising was kind of okay, too, culminating in the scene with the Evil Trip overcoming the Evil Doctor trying to sabotage the warp engines.  I was rooting for the bearded Soval; he reminded of the bearded Spock.

Yeah, I really liked those sequences.  The entire episode of Part II wasn't written as well as I thought it would be, I must admit though.  But that didn't stop me from enjoying it, as it still was pretty good.  The CGI was real nice overall as well, I liked it, even the more-conteporary sound effects blending with TOS tech sounds wonderfully on the Defiant.  I figured they'd just use the classic sounds as pure as it was, but they didn't, and it was no dissapointment.  The sets were especially wonderful and so were the uniforms.  The story itself, again, was alright, but it could've been better.  The best part of the episode was the Defiant herself, basically.  I'm sure many would agree with me on that.
