For the draft, trying to get a tentative idea of who thinks of themself as a PVP
player, and who thinks of themselves as a hex-flipper.

I know many of you consider yourself proficient at both, and some neither <cough>*J'inn*<cough>
but if you could pick one of the two it would help try and digure out where to stick you.
Not asking for amount of time you think you'll play, as everyone knows it can change easily.

Being on dialup I tend to stay out of the high traffic zones that will likely end up in 4 or 5 people in a mission. That results in my doing more hex flipping then PVP.

I have been in battles with 5 people and 17 vessels (counting the AI FRDs) which worked flawlessly. It was a wonderful furball.

I've never thought of myself in those terms. I just log on and ask where I'm wanted. If it's a hot zone it's PvP if not it hex flipping. I don't care either which way.

I guess I'm a flipper. I look for a strategic goal, and go for it whether it is defended or not. I'll ignore hot spots if I think I can get more VC elsewhere.

I'm also stubborn. When defenders show up, I try to kill them if I can.

TraumaTech.. PVP is Player vs Player.. Dial-Up just isn't up to the task.. so that would make you a hex flipper, you vs AI.. the crashes you have been having has been when you try to join PVP matches on GW 5 shows your connection is not suited for the task...

pest....thx for the tip but as far as i know,i have never played a game against you,so how would you know how often i crash.as for crashing,i have flown in many 2v1 and 2v2 matches on the dynaverse without crashing,so as i said,i am a player vs player,player and will continue to fly the dynaverse looking for pvp games as opposed to hex flippng

Trauma.. your team tried drafting me 4 times on GW 5 and each time everyone I know of went to desktop.. You and I had 1 mission against each other that was stable but it too crashed 25 min into battle..

Now if you want your Dial-Up connection stable enough to have PVP missions, then I can help you config your connection..

However first I would need to know who your ISP service is with... if AOL.. your SOL...

On TS, almost every Alliance member complained about a CTD when you were drafted into a mission or stated that you had dropped at the beginning of a mission..

given what I experienced and what others have stated about PVP with you, your connection needs a lot of help.. currently it is not suited for PVP... This also causes problems with the server kit.. as in corrupting the Database.. the server sees it as an Alt out of mission and / or a forfit... and the server kit has trouble negotiating these things.

It may be stable enough for a 1 vs 1 or for GSA, but not for a 2 v1 or 2v2 or 3v3 or 3v2 or 3v1... Dialup just does not have enough bandwith unless you tweak it out to get a 64 to 86 K connection out of that 56k modem.. plus you modem has to be a v0.92 modem for it to handle the overclock to gain high bandwidth...

LOL, its hard to believe Jinn avoded all planets or asteroids this server.

It looks mostly PvP posting here Hexx, so I would advise making the map small w/ high DV's. Maybe 3 Hexes of planets/FRDs that are the only Map VC's . A border only 9 hexes wide with a 2 Hex draft range....any where you sit around the neutral zone will get you drafted eventually.
Just put non VC battle stations 3 hexes back for a non-drafting resupp.

Also a "PvP draft" post here would be cool, for people to throw the glove and state challenges. Maybe posting your hex location before logging on earns you 1 VC win or lose if a kill is posted that day.

Im looking forward to trying Fed for the first time on the Dyna. I flew the first month I had this game in a SL fleet as Federation, and when the PVP action went fully to gamespy I joined (MoK) the Ministry of Kahless.

Some of the best times ever fighting 2v2 Hour long battles with my brothers. Hope to see the same on Mirror, Mirror

Actually (personally) I don't think there's that many rules

1) Top 3 1V1 PVP player get VP for their sides
2) No PVP kills made in a DN or BCV count towards rule #1
3) No mission in which you have a wing counts towards #1

Disengagement tagainst planets/ bases is being discussed. Throwing PMs back and forth with a few on how
it can or can not work

-Possibly considering expanding the "out of hex" time for disengagement to encourage people to smash our ships up
(say 20 minutes for destruction/60 for running)

-Working on the relative VP's of hexes/bases to make them worth about 80-90% of the VP total.

Other than the fairly simple PVP rules (if you're alone you get points, if you're not you don't) there isn't even close to as many rules
as any recent server.

Other things (updatedish)
-Carriers are out except for one or two ships (I'd like to take them all out- but I don't wnt to ruin it
if anyone's been looking forward to fed fighters)
- Mutli ship fleets are out
-droneboats & escorts are still out
- I'm (still) wavering on the year issue, lot of requests to run it in early
Problem is there's CC's/CA's/CL'sDD's and not much else.
Plus I think the later years a re abit more fun
-I've wiped the ideas of "secret VC's" as too many people have sent PMs claiming it's "too complicated" so Xships are out.

As I've asid- I rad (and consdier) each and every PM and note here. Only thing I ask though is
*please* actually make a case

"PVP Victory points cause problems, Map based VP's don't"
is a BS topic .VP's cause stress <----- this is a bad PM to send me

"You're an idiot, and you're overcomplicating this due to x y z" <---- this is a <sigh> good PM to send me

Yep- the points are there to reward or let the guys who like PVP feel they've contributed, they're not

Mrogue, send me a PM with your OS type and I will send you a detailed tweak guide on how you can get between 64 to 84 K on your dialup and how to be a lot more stable in PVP games... that is of course that your ISP is not throtteling your connection (capping it at 52K like some Dial-up services will do [AOL]).

Sign me up. Strongly prefer PvP to hex flipping, though I can do both. And my skills are even approaching acceptable, having not been killed even once on the last server!

Have broadband cable so that is not an issue. Main issue with me is time. Got a wife, two small boys, and a house in the middle of a major do-it-yourself renovation, so I can't commit to being on every night. Probably one out of every two nights at best, and then probably for a max of approx 3 hours. Will get the occasional "free evening" where the wife is out with the girls or visiting her folks, where I can pull a marathon session.

I would enjoy taking part in this campaign, though it's been a while since I've play OP. Re-installed it the other day. I assume there will be a mod I need to apply to play?

Anyhow - if this is still an open invite, I'd love to take part. Put me on whatever team needs folks. BTW - I don't currently have a headset/mich so if TS is "required" I may have to sit this one out.....

You can use TS and just listen in.. also Headset microphones are only $4 at Best Buy.. so easy to get one if you like to..

TS is not required, but you will have to keep in mind that not many use the text chat system built in game.

Now that I've rooted around, I did find an older headset. I may try to run TS off my laptop (which is also running a EAW fun server "Fringe"). I'm guessing that it wasn't too late to sign on for Mirror Mirror

I just ran the installer - and will check out the test server soon.

Is there a TS address already?

Mrogue, send me a PM with your OS type and I will send you a detailed tweak guide on how you can get between 64 to 84 K on your dialup and how to be a lot more stable in PVP games... that is of course that your ISP is not throtteling your connection (capping it at 52K like some Dial-up services will do [AOL]).
