Seeing that the episode is coming up the 22nd, I undid the "ghosty" effect on this ship and am thinking about releasing it more or less how it shoud appear in the upcoming ep.

That is, if anyone is interested? 

Started with the SFC 3 version of it, so it'll take no time at all to get out the SFC 2 and SFC 1 version from there.

Just let me know if you guys want it..

Very nice. Just one question...how do you get the star field in your model viewer? mine just has a blue background with no place to change it that I can find

Pretty simple really.. Open the .MOD file in ModViewer, get it orientated as wanted, Alt-Print.  Go into PSP, paste as a new image, use the magic wand to select the blue area.  Open my background in another window, Select All, copy, go back to my original window, paste into selecttion.  Done. 

Trick here is to not have a blue area touching the blue of ModViewer, then the wand works without taking out a chunk of the ship itself.  The reason I sometimes post the shot from inside ModViewer is so that people can see how it actually looks in ModViewer as opposed to a render in Max.  But I hate the plain blue background..

It's hard to tell if it's an 8 or a 6 in the one picture released so far, but one would think that since the Trek art department assigned it the number 1764, that'd be the one they'd use.


Oh, and Alec, do you happen to have textures for the Yorktown, NCC-1717?

Also, as Rat Boy pointed out in the thread in the Holodeck forum, there are "inaccuracies" to the CGI ship in the upcoming two-parter episode.  After some thought today (when I got off working), I wouldn't really say they're as much inaccurate as it is small differences as it is with some ships of the same class of Starship, like the Constellation for example (from "The Doomsday Machine" [TOS]).  So, like the Constellation, the Defiant has some differences that make it unique from most other class of Starships while not being too different to be another class of Starship.  As he explained, there might be sharper curves on the saucer when compared to the U.S.S. Enterprise, and the Defiant's saucer is a little thicker, which explains how the registry looks like it was "slipping off", even though it's neatly stuck on.

What you did so far is nice, Atheorhaven.  Although I prefer the 6 over the 8, I still think it's a nice job.

To be fair, Chris, you could right off most of the visual differences on the Constellation to the fact it got its butt whooped by the Planet Killer.

Yeah, I think that was my mess-up... the textures I have on here now are pretty well the base Schtupp textures with the changed registries.  But these'll still need to be fixed, these give us the famous blue glow on the intercooler.. so I'll have to fix things yet on these.  (Hence WIP).  The 8 can be changed to a 6 in no time, it just involves changing things on two sets of textures, that's all.

Not yet, but easy enough to fix. 

If someone wants to provide me a list of ships and regs of the original 12 Connie's, I can bang out a set of Phull?1 and their illums, and the Warp1 pair as well so people can use whichever set they want on things. 

One thing though.. there's two Schtupp versions, so one set may or may not work on the other mesh.

I doubt it shrunk the size of the Constellation's secondary hull and possibly other areas as well.  And besides, everybody says what's seen on-screen is canon.  Therefore, there are variances in the Constitution-class Starship design due to seeing the differences between the Enterprise and the Constellation in that episode, and therefore the Defiant is accurate enough to be a Constitution-class due to having the basic attributes of the said class of Starship design.  I will hold to this opinion.  Of course, yes, I don't always go canonical in things as I say, but I will in this case to justify the FX people's work.

Uh, Chris, there weren't any such differences between the two models; both the AMT model and the shooting model are so close in proportion that any differences (and there is no evidence that there are any differences) would be invisible to the human eye.  I think you're being facetious just for the sake of being so.

There are some differences between the Constellation and Enterprise, believe it or not.  A slightly smaller secondary hull at the very least, and probably some different details here and there.  It may not be as easy to recognize as the Defiant's different details, but the differences are there.  Atra probably noted them and included 'em in his Constitution-class model variants on his website, I know how sharp an eye he has simply by looking at his observations about things, drawing up valid theories about how this or that wasn't meant to be in the original concepts of the Enterprise in TOS, etc.

Besides, I don't believe there's any official book or statement that all starships of a class have to be exactly alike.  Trek nullified it when it came to sister ships of a certain class of Starship.  You have to know where to look in Trek to notice the subtle and not-so-subtle differences in sister ships in a specific class of Starship.

Way cool, Alec! She looks fantastic. You need to get back into SFC a bit more fulltime, IMHO.

I also agree with Chris. It makes sense, to me as well, that there would be differences between Connies. Each one would most likely have some advancements/refinements, etc... Technology marches on, after all.
