The Ultimate Sacrifice (D2 wise)
« on: April 16, 2005, 07:51:18 pm »
In an effort to actually get people to fly with others, maybe even talk and see that we're all pretty much the same.
I'm toying with the idea of a draft for Mirror2

What I want to know is

Will you fly on Mirror2 if there is a draft?

I'd just like everyone who would be willing to sign up for a draft- to play the game no matter who you're flying with
to post here.

Thanks

Yeah, I'd do a draft.  I certainly don't care who I fly with for the most part, one of the reasons I never really bothered to join a fleet.  I just want to have fun fighting the good fight.

Yes.

For some bizarre reason, some folks can't use VT, some can't use Teamspeak.  Really depends on what sound card or motherboard sound you use.

I still don't know why we ever left Battlecomm.  Worked great, even for modem users.

I agree. Although, after using both TS and VT and still using both, running both at the same time even to communicate with all pilots, still think VT has superior vioce quality and better features.

I don't mind using VT myself, except that I'm one of the lucky few that has to reset my audio device after a couple of folks talk before I can broadcast.  Other than that folks come over it nicely, just annoying to have to use the hotkey and wait for it to respond (takes a second but I get a nice ping when it's done) before I can talk.  Oh, well.  Haven't had any luck running both at the same time and being able to broadcast, always says my audio device is in use.

I'm in.

Glad to hear this will be a typical 2-sided server, while still trying out other concepts...

I'm even willing to reprise my role as RM / Strategic Commander for a side, and I promise to follow all the rules, such as completly blind draft (where nobody sees my draft list except the draft manager and possibly my A/RMs), No trades, which includes consulting with the other house leaders pre-draft to attempt to ensure that certain players are on the same house, unless the draft is designed to allocate entire fleet-blocks, no politics (which is hard on a 2-sided server), etc. etc.

I just ask that you post the rules clearly prior to the main signup phase actually begins so that those who sign up know what they're getting into... ;)

The reason I mentioned TS is becuase some of us have small HDs and only would want one program on our systems The D3ers use TS as well as Cugs and UAW in which I intend to play on all of them.I am just trying to simplify it that is all and if it works for D3 , Cugs and UaW  why not use TS atleast we would have better way to communicate between the RM/ARMs and Server Admins.

I'm supportive of trying a blind draft and it wouldn't deter my participation in any server.  I especially don't see it as an issue if the shiplist is identical.

Can't say that I'm in or not on the server yet, however as I have to look at the other settings.  I've gotten involved in other games now and am picking and choosing servers with some care, and wouldn't want to sign up for a draft if I was not going to put in a certain amount of time.

Seems like voice chat is a pretty major factor (understandably so).  I can use VT or TS w/ no problem, but it others can't for whatever reason (and there are valid reasons).  Did you want that to be considered also Hexx?

Good point Green, I can also use both but have the newer version of Ventrilo installed for my other gaming community and I dont think the 2 are compatible, would kinda suck to play without voice comms.

After all the allegations concerning the Klingon civil war server.  I think that for a draft to work it will have to be public.  A list of all pilots followed by a RM by RM sequential draft choice.

I'd like to thank everyone for actually agreeing to sign up for it so far.
(C'mon You know Captain Natas wants to play)
I didn't realize the voice coms were a make or break for so many people, it may affect the outcome.
I'll think about it
ATM it will likely be a blind draft, it may simpley involve me assigning every player a number and then divying them up somehow.
It will not be a publicly announced draft, simply due to the fact that I'm not going to run a server where someone is publicly drafted
second last. (cuz we all know who last will be... ::)   bastards..)
I know most of you can run either or, maybe the people who can run one or the other will sit out of the initial draft until the 2 leaders
decide who will use what. (Oh, did I mention I need 2 leaders btw?)

Yep

You'd be one Leader, I need two
I mean I suppose you could run both sides but...
I haven't posted on the actual draft yet as I'm not sure what needs to be done.
Personally I'd like to thrwo everyone's name into the proverbial hat and just randomnly assign people to a side
Then voice coms etc comes into it and of course people would have to trust me..  :P

Yes... and if running both comms is viable I'd do that also.

I think it's a great way to get to know each other.  There are pilots normally flying Coalition I'd love to wing with.

Heh, now here's the fun part... does everyone trust me to do this
(I assume this thread will be on page 60 when I wake up tomorrow  :P )

I personally think that if you do a blind draft, you would need to communicate the exact method of HOW you are going to do your blind draft.   Spell it out VERY specifically, then show the current list of players to be drafted (I'm sure you might have to do this several times as new pilots get interested).   Then and only then, do I think that the majority of pilots will be comfortable with the draft.   I know I can't speak for the majority, but that is my opinion and preference.

Personally I would like a draft system where we all get together and get drunk, then throw darts at Hexx. The part of his body you hit will determine the team you fly for. Him being such a small target should make it quite challenging.

I would like to see the draft idea tried out; I had a blast on The KBF server flying against my buddies as a Hydran; I think mixing everyone up to fight with their regular "enemies" and against their regular "allies" could really make a positive impact on our community.

  :o

I know I said I'd consider all ideas but.. uhmm the travel expenses would simply be too much fpr me to ask
of all of you..otherwise I'm good with Corbo's idea.

Actually my idea of a blind draft would simply be to assign all the signed up players a number and have the two leaders
pick by numbers.

I'd love to play in a draft server, and Mirror Mirror is a perfect setup to try it out in.  And yes, Hexx, I trust you to be fair in whatever method you use to admin the draft.

<joking>
Certainly there should be no trades, but there are some old card game rules I'd like to see.  In several classic compettive card games, both sides are allowed to pass to their opponent two or three cards that they don't want.  Could we do that?  There are a few pilots I'd like to make sure are in my sites and not on my wings.  They so have it coming.

A Draft sounds like a wonderful idea.  I am pretty sure, it has not been Tried.

Blilnd Draft or by selection are the questions.

Blind draft is my choice, put the names on slips, put all slips in bag ( one slip per player btw even if you have multiple personalities ) and the server admin picks at random and makes two piles.  Coalate the roster then go...easy and random.

I would rather the 2 captains get togher with the admin on voice comms and pick their players like a pick-up game of Basketball.

This is the easiest and fairest way to go.

draft sounds fine.Does this mean we password the server to lock it out after it has started? What about players who come late and/or miss the draft?Just wondering.Blind draft no trades. Each build cycle by RMs to Admin who takes both lists see which ones match each other and those get to be the builds for the round.HAH!! more work for Hexx ;D Or how about at mid-server the 3 top prestige earners switch sides.

(cuz we all know who last will be... ::)   bastards..)

You need to think like a Romulan.  Instead of seeing this as a bug in the system see it as a feature.  Announce that you and J'inn are not part of the draft but you will assign the two of you where most needed once the draft is complete.  Just think of how much you could make as people try to influence your decision to go "the right way".

Such opportunities don't come often, seize the day.

If your gonna do a totally balanced draft then do the names in a pot and have a non-playing admin divide them solo. We will still see problems that occur with the "nutter" syndrome swaying from side to side ( back off, Kroma). But overall this may be the neighborhood get-together server we seem to be needing.

I disagree, DH, playing "Captains" on 2 sides will continue certain attitudes some think have led to our woes, and it really makes the server more fun when you have to battle your last commander and normal wing man in a 2 vs 1! (Again Kroma, please remain silent)

Allowing the draft to be totally anonymous completely deletes any ideas of "this guy flys 50 A.I. missions in 2 hours" or the "this pilot gets 3 PvP kills a day" conflictions. And Hexx won't have to live with being Picked LAST.

Just my viewpoint, but I'm willing to try any suggestions because I love this game and enjoy it so much.

I would tend to agree, but given the luck we have, we'd end up with all the hex-flippers on one side, and all the PvPers on the other. What could be a solution is to have a pre-draft signup with an indication of which role a player is better at, and split them into two hats. Have the admin pull equally from each for both sides.

For example: Hexx does the draft: he pulls out of the PvP hat and gets Kreug. He goes to the Mirror Feds. Next, he'll pull another PvP'er and draws Die Hard, who goes to the Good Guys. Next round, he pulls a hex flipper from that hat and gets Soreyes, who goes to the Good Guys, while another hex flipper, say Gook, is pulled next and goes to the Mirror Feds. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Naturally, it's not a perfect solution as some guys excel in both areas, like Chuut and War Sears, but it would still be luck of the draw who gets them.

I'd be happy to play.

I'd also be happy to handle the draft.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF PETE!!!    NO WEASELING AND/OR ASKING FOR POST DRAFT TRADING LIKE ON KCW!!!!! It just causes too much trouble.  Just draft and play.

However, the draft system I used for that would help balance the skill and nutter level.   I'd be happy to do it again.

An interesting idea might also be to seperate the pilots into several smaller drafts as well based on most common time online so as to have a better chance for relative numbers parity at any given time, might be too complicated but just thought I'd bring it up.

OK, OT we go... lol

I used to like Canadian beers and drank plenty of them (relatively - as alcohol is not my preferred poison), but I find most of them make me sick now (especially draft) but the European beers brewed according to the purity law (only 4 allowable ingredients in beer) usually sit OK on my ol guts now.

Sad but true; Stella has replaced Moosehead for me as my default brew. Unfortunately, a six of Stella costs me $11.95 CAN... ow...

Cant drink cans anymore either, just bottles... guess I'm just getting to be a picky old fart.  ;D

Well cans are understandable, really I think the only ones who prefer beer from a can are the same
hicks who drink the aforemailgned american brew.
But to turn your back on Keiths.. oh the humanity
(As fr the purity laws- on my tour of Europe wasn't particularly impressed, although had a VERY good
beer in Austira regrettably I was so hammered i don't remember what it was..  :'( )
