Man, I saw the teaser with the Dalek and I'm dying for next weeks episode.  I have to say, I think this is the best rebirth of a series I've ever seen.  I'm really enjoying it, and it gets better and better as it goes along.  Anyone who isn't catching this show is really missing out.  Bring on the Daleks! :D

How did the TImelords get wiped out?

I just got a chance to see the second episode, and now I finally understand why you asked this question.

I've no idea.  When the Doctor broadcast his last episode years ago, there were still plenty of Timelords and they seemed like one of the ultimate powers in the universe.  (Hamstrung by an overactive sense of restraint.)

Now this new 2005 Timelord says there was a war and they were all wiped out, and he's the last one left.  So far as I know there is no information (yet) on how this happened or who did it.

Frankly, I'm a little sad.  I enjoyed the Gallifrey episodes.  And I really enjoyed The Master; especially as played by Roger Delgado.  If The Doctor is the last Timelord left alive, I guess The Master is dead too.

Now that's just not right.    :(

Unless the war was between the Master and the other Timelords, which means the Master might just be still alive...afterall, someone has to win a war and I don't imagine our good doctor won the war as the only timelord left...

Or maybe not.

That's an interesting possibilty.  In the past, the Master has "led" invasion forces of various villainous races; including Daleks.  (Though the Master and the invasion force usually end up having different ideas about who's really in charge.)  I suppose if he did lead/help the race that wiped out Gallifrey, the Doctor might not feel amiss in calling himself "The Last Timelord", even if the Master is still alive.

As for the other renegade Timelords:

Omega is really going to be pi$$ed.  He's still stuck over in the anti-matter universe, and now there isn't even a race of Timelords to benefit from his torture.  He suffers for no reason.  This can only result in one thing:  many, many bodies.

I'm NOT going to miss the Rani if she's dead.  (Whose brainchild was she anyway?  Boo!  Hiss!)

I wonder if Romana is still alive in E-Space?

Well, putz.

I did a little nostalgic surfing on the net, reading about old episodes, and I stumbled upon a spoiler that may have told me what happened to the Timelords.

Bastard spoilers.  People ought to mark that stuff before putting it on the internet.  I hardly think a simple prepositional phrase is enough warning.  I can read a whole sentence at a glance.  It would be much more suitable if the entire  paragraph were wrapped with a giant label that read, "Warning! Lark's Vomit!"

I'm going to try very hard to hope I missed several details -- so I'll still see some suprises when it gets broadcast -- and try very hard not to remember what I've already seen.

But if you are curious, keep watching this season.  I think you're going to find out the answer.

Without saying too much the episode with the Dalek reveals more to this story.
