A question for you all
« on: April 14, 2005, 02:46:28 pm »
As some of you know, I used to belong to Starfleet Tactical Operations Command. (this is a pic of the map after the last turn STOC ran)

There are advantages to it and disadvantages, but I believe it has some elements many of us are looking for in SFB that are not supplied by SFC or the D2.

STOC's biggest problem was always the lack of players, but with our player base here, that is not a problem.

So I am looking at resurrecting a game in this style.  (Max Power was going to before he turned to Eve)

If there is interest, I would like to form a turn based game for economy, ship building, and strategic ship movement.

Battles would be played out on GSA.

An admin crew would have to be established with leaders of all the races included. (LDR, WYN & pirates if they are included also)  Rules created for battle break downs (due to the limitations of OP's 3 ship per player limit)

Deep strike rules, cloaked strategic movement, sensor nets, and other stuff would need to be decided on.

But if you are interested, please answer the poll.

Toss in ideas and comments, recommendations, or what ever....

Thanks,
Bearslayer

Wheres' the option for it's not a stupid idea, as long as only the major powers are used with any alliances, cj ships that may be built
and we've realized if you stay off the D2 you can't kill me anymore?

well now you've skewed the poll dumbass  :P

Seriously I've always though it sounded like fun, but
-I don't know the rules
-doesn't it penalize the lesser flwon races even more than the D2?
Doesn't it penalize less skilled PVPers? (not that that's an issue with me)

In the STOC game, Hydrans were expected to be wiped out.

It didn't happen that way, after all, I was the RM & I am just a tad smarter than the average bear. ;)

I advocate re-writing the rules anyways, I think they need work and I don't want to steal others work. (the rule set now is officially STOC's)

But I don't want anything as complicated at F&E's rules or map.  (Max actually has a CyberBoard F&E map)

Something simplier and more stream lined.

As far as PvP's.... there are plenty of good pilots for all the races out there.  So your lack of skills will not be that much of an issue. ;)

Not for me to correct you Brother Bear, but i believe thats turn 25, there was a one after that where us GLORIOUS KZINTI had the Klingon scum on the run
(yea, they ran in their Frigates from our Glorious Dreadnoughts and left their bases as canon fodder   oh joy  ;D)

The only real 3 problems with the VG were

1) Lack of Players
2) Nightmare for the moderator/s  (with all the moves)
3) Instability of GS when resolving battles

Other than that

IT WAS MEGA and i would play again in a heartbeat  ;D

DH, and some older members of the 9th, could answer this better than I can, but I remember the old F&E on GSA being a logistical nightmare. I tried it for a couple of weeks, but the time it took, having to schedule battles at weird times(for me anyway) and downloads which were totally confusing(I hate Excel), made it too much to do on top of the fact I was playing actively on IDSL at the same time.

So I voted for the "Go Kill Hexx" option. It seemed the easiest out. ;)

The biggest pain is being able to commit to regular playing times and days...

I'd give it a shot...

The only downloads would be the MagnumMan's Base assault (which does need updated and fixed) & the updated maps.

Other than that, use of OP+ is what I would go with.

Race Leaders would need to use excel for Production & Movement posting, that is about it.

Scheduling will be an issue no matter what is played.
