Egad!!! I need money!!!
« on: April 13, 2005, 01:46:08 pm »
And no, I'm not asking for a loan, but thanks anyway.  :)
My situation is this:
I am currently going back to school to get an accounting degree.  I am using VA benefits, and right now that is my sole income.  I'm going to school full time, so my non study/school timeis limited.  Needless to say, my consumption level is next to nill, but I am at a critical phase now where I am starting to incur some fixed costs that I can no longer put off.  Things like eye exam(am out of contacts and need a new perscription), car repairs, etc.
School costs are pretty well covered, since i traded in my GI bill for Chapter 31 (Voc Rehab).  So books, tuition, necessary supplies are taken care of.  Still though, just living has it's own costs as well, especially when you need to take into account getting to and from school everyday, and $450 to live on per month isn't alot.
Any suggestions on how to make some money without sacrificing school or locking my schedule down to some ass who is unwilling to accept the fact that I can't work certain days/times(isn't it great how bosses are always good for that?), or that I have tests and assignements to worry about would be welcome.
The thought I am having right now is Ebay.  I have a few odds and ends that I'm preparing to get rid of to raise some desperately neededcash, which I can use in one of two ways:
1) I can use the couple hundred or possibly a little more than that, to ay off immiediate needs, or
2) I could sell these things and use the money i get from that to buy more crap, which in turn I sell which will hopefully cover costs and provide some operating income which I can hopefully grow into an actual <gasp> income.
2 sounds like a good idea, but I know nothing of what to buy, or where to buy it, so any advice on Ebaying would be of help to me.

Kids clothes.  Pick up nice kids clothes cheap, at like a resale, and put them on ebay.

A question Clark, how did you convert the G.I. Bill to voc rehab? From all the people that I've dealt with, besides VA regs, Voc Rehab is for 30% disabled or more service connected veterans.

What you know of voc rehab is correct.

Dump the contacts and get glasses...you're there for an education, not chicks...at least one pair of inexpensive glasses will last a year or two...

Learn to like Ramen, it's cheap, and if you hit a squirrel or a rabbit, you have extra meat....

If you don't know how to, learn to fish..you can get inexpensive tackle, worms are all over, and you can read while you drown them...

Copy you're entire CD collection to a hard drive, and sell the CDs on Ebay

Sell your blood & plasma

Learn to mushroom, and find out what edible plants there are in the forests near you..

Hey, I was in college a long time ago..all I had were acedmic scholarships..until I joined the USAF..and that could be a final answer..the military is looking long and deep

Indeed. I'm on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. I got the lowest type. Here's the breakdown of everything I accepted.

3 year/ $45,000 scholarship (so, my soph/junior/senior the AF gives me $15,000.)
WPI, (like most schools, and ALL state schools last time I checked) gives me the full amount for room and board.
If you do NOT live on campus, this translates into $11,500 (at WPI) that goes into my 'pocket'. (aka tuition). If you do live on Campus, get the most expensive meal plan you can afford, cause it's free baby!

Also, when I activate my scholarship next year, I sign on the dotted line (contract, enlist, whatever your term is) I get paid $300 monthly, Junior year $350, and senior year $400 monthly. Not a bad deal. Also, $500 for books every year.

Did I mention those $250-400 stipends are non-taxable, as is the book stipend? Yeah...it's a sweat deal.

All told, I'll owe the Air Force at least 4 years after college. (More if I get my pilot slot!).

So, thats just a quick run down of what I personally am getting.

Other kids i know are on full (type 1) scholarships. It's really amazing. Kick the idea around, and always remember you can join up anytime pretty much.
