Question regarding groups in Milkshape
« on: April 11, 2005, 07:37:27 pm »
Might apply to 3DS MAX too. Don't know. Don't have that one :(

Okay, I'm working on my first model and was wondering if there is a limit to the number of groups I can define in Milkshape before the model becomes unstable or causes issues in the game. I hope somebody knows.

Oh, another question. I'm looking for a good texturing tutorial. Are there any that you guys recommend? Thanks.

don't know the number of groups that are supported by SFC but i tryed models with 50 groups and more that have been converted from KA and they caused no problems but if you wanna reload the mod files into Milkshape they should not have more than 20 or more groups because than Milkshape will crash to desktop without anny comment on the error and Milkshape normally don't load models with more than 128 materials  :)

kewl. Thank you for the answer Terradyhne. That helps a lot. I've got 10 now and only want a few more. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause game problems.

Very interesting! -- i've just started using Milkshape felt $25 was a decent investment to start my modeling career.  I like it enuf, but have had it crash without comment - now I know why  ::)  The break model issue is pretty real too wasn't aware of that - (have only just begun tinkering).   I like what folks have done for a workaround by adding damage and just renaming the file.  I wonder if having a break model from a similar hull and putting it in the appropriate folder (maybe changing some textures too why not) might be cool as well?!   Hmmm, well I'm definitely going to get started with Milkshape but it sounds like 3DMax is the longer term investment perhaps....

Cheers
