Mouse Question
« on: April 10, 2005, 09:12:58 am »
Just ordered myself a new mouse (logitech mx518) because my current one is starting to go on me (over 3 years old packard bell optical 400dpi i think).

The product information page indicated that the mx518 could be connected via ps/2 or by usb.

I just want to know if there is any difference by using one method over the other.

i.e. do i lose performance or funcationality by using the ps/2 connector instead of the usb?

USB is always faster through put--I'm not sure with a mouse that is significant.

Thats what i was thinking....

hmmmmm normally i wouldn't ask this question but the mx518 is supposed to be 'high performance' - if you believe the marketing blurb.

I've heard some good things about that mouse, but then I think that most but I think most optical mice are about the same.  I would go with one that feels good in your hands and doesn't cost an outrageous amount of money.  Don't worry about a mouse pad, I haven't used one since I bought my optical mouse a couple of years ago.

I went into a store not too long back and tried the logitech mx range and found them to fit in my hand nicely.

I got my mx518 the other day and plugged it into a free usb port.

The difference is astonishing. This mouse quite literally GLIDES across the mousepad. Infact, all it took was the little tension in the hanging mouse cord it pull it along. The buttons are nicely placed.

So I load up ut2004 and I have to decrease the dpi to 800 because it was too sensitive at 1600 (at least intially til i get used to it. When they say it picks up every twitch they ain't kidding!

I definately notice a big difference from my old 400 dpi packard bell optical mouse.

I want to get the MX1000 laser optical mouse and see how that one performs.
Only in America .....do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.
