Would look up your driver version for me in the Device manager? If it's older than 5.6.7.2., then upgrade it to that one, or newer, and figure out a way to turn OpenGL on in the driver settings, I haven't touched that in a long time, so I wouldn't know automatically how to do it, beleave me, it'll work faster than before, NVidia's are better in OpenGL than any other manufacturer's cards. Oh, and my strong suggestion would be to loose the WinXPHome, and get WinXPPro, XPHome is crap.

The only difference between xp home and rofessional is that pro has increased netwok capability and can handle multiple processors... apart from that... their the same.

As for the Nvidia card comment, I use ATI and mine is fine...  ;) We all have our oppinions tho... unfortunately dude I cant help with your dilemma.  :-\

I recently got max 4 and I'm having this same exact problem. I can export ok but every time I try to import it freezes up.  :( I have an ATI Radeon 7000 graphics card with most recent driver, 2.26 GHz processor, 384 MB of RAM and I'm using Windows XP Pro and directx 9.0c. If anyone figures out how to fix this, please help.
