Firewall Message
« on: March 31, 2005, 10:14:53 am »
I'm getting the "You have a firewall up or are not online" message when I try to get to the D2 Server Directory List. I assume it is only me as no one else has posted? I don't have a firewall up or a router and haven't changed any settings on my machine. Its the same setup I've been using for five years. All online activities work just as well as ever except getting to the server list. I'm stumped, any ideas?

Just checked and I logged in OK. (networks have been a bit unsteady here over the last day or two with the weather the way it is though).

Can you ping or tracert to the directory server? (similarly, can you be pinged from outside?) Has your ISP changed anything?

You should first edit the wonserversetup.gf and check if  the WONDirectoryServer/Addresses has the right serverpath.
If u dont have any router/firewall up then the best u should try is reinstall the game then the patch then the 4.0 and then the gw5installer(attention do NOT download DH installation  ;D ).
U play PBAlaegue where we use 3.4sl so there might be an issue with your installation(only 4.0sl updates the wonserversetup.gf).

Corbomite I get the same message all the time when I try to log on. I found that all I have to do is alt-F4 out to desk top. Then sign in again. For me that usually fixes the problem.

Well that's a new one, I'll try that. As far as the WON.net thingy, I did that a long time ago. I was on SGO just fine so unless they changed it again I'm at a loss. It has nothing to do with the version or mod I am using. I tried the stock setup I have, the OP+3.4 and the OP+4.0 with the GW5 installation. All give me the same grief. Would my IE security settings have anything to do with it? I haven't changed them, but they may have gotten out of whack or something.

I also ran into that problem a while back, but for a different game.  I actually turned on my firewall(win XP one), then turned it back off.  One other time i had a similar problem, i was actually running a firewall with a hole in it for the game when all of a sudden i could no longer play due to it.  I turned it off, rebooted, turned it back on, rebooted, and that also worked.

For some reason I had to completely re-do my port forwarding for SGO4, even though it worked fine for all other servers.  NO idea why, but it did the trick.
