Myself Id say SFB course I did like the differant size Photons and phasers of FASA tho Kinda made since, but I did not like the way the did their shield rules where each shield was independent of the others, as in the show and movies when the captain said raise shield all of them came up.

I am torn a little on the engines, but I think FASA did them a little better.

Plasma torpedoes have to go with SFB

Cloak Again sfb developed it a bit better

Not too sure what else we could compare

But one thing I did dearly love about FASA is the star ship Constrution manual, which I got pretty good at making some very efficient ships especially the smaller ones.

So if you'ved played both what do you think about both

I an SFB fan myself, but I really haven't played the ST: FASA.  I have the manual photo copied, but no other game material.  I may have to dust off the old manual and see what the game is like to give an opinion.

I don't think that ADB was willing to loose the money that they thought publishing the BPV rules would deprive them of.

They don't realize that would have been a PR stunt that would have brought them more business- I mean, in D&D, you have the rules to build any monster you want in the Monster Manual, but people buy thousands oof Monstar Manual 2 & 3's, Monsters of Ferun, etc every year.

I never played SFB, I was a FASA boy...  Ignoring the rules and the difference between TOS and TMP eras the games were set in, I still much prefer many of the designs that came from FASA.  Some are still pretty apalling, but I think they mostly look a little more impressive than the simple, repetitive geometry used by SFB.

I played FASA only. I heartily agree that most ships looked way better than the SFB ships. I just wished their had been a better player base where I lived back in the 80s.
