So will an earlier plugin work with Max 7?

Plug-ins won't work for anything after Max 5.1.
I know some foilk have made efforts to solve the problem, but so far, there has been no success.

It isn't a big deal though really besides for having to keep a copy of max 4 on your drive.  I am sure whatever you make in 7 can quickly be moved to 4 and converted.  Of course you know that but it isn't that bad really.

unfortunatly i have found the max files from max 5-7 will not import into max4 directly so they have to be exported to 3ds files then imported into max 4 for the conversion to .mod

If someone could have MS Visual Studio ver 7.0 or MS Visual Studio 200...(forgot the year) we would easily recompile the Plugins with the newer API to newer Max versions which plugin were compiled with newer MS C++ API ;)

It's my first time posting here, but I've been visiting these forums since the Taldren Forums were still up so I'm not a total noob (gosh I'm beginning to hate that word) here.

Anyways I'm bumping this semi-old thread because I REALLY need that plug-in made for 3ds Max 7, I can't find an earlier version of 3ds Max though I've been searching for about a year or so, but I can get 7 and if it has this to-be-made plug-in I can start making ships, I have a lot of ideas and also experience with other modelling programs (my profile pic is a model of the Highwind airship from FF7 which I made with a program called POV-Ray)

So someone PLEASE make this Plug-in!

Many thanks in advance!

I'm no model maker...but if it's this simple...then someone should definately do it...certainly better to use modern up to date tools...Who made the first plugin for Max 3,4,5?  Maybe we should start there...or post on other sites involving modeling...or modeling SFC...I'm shocked someone hasn't put one together yet...

Maybe we should recompile the plugin API code with the newer version of MS Visual software. I've got MS Visual 6.0 but Max 7 requires propably a newer one as Max 6 did  :-\  ;)

It would also be really good if someone could recompile the plugins for use in gmax.  That way, people could make models completely from scratch with a 100% free program.

Right now, your best solution is to make your models in 3ds max 7, get Milkshape 3D, export your models as .3ds files, import them into Milkshape, and then export them as .mod files.
