Nice Akira, Mani. IMO this is an underrepresented ship. I don't know why it's not more popular? It's one of my favorite TNG designs.

Hate to say this but the model has some problems.  It has bad lightmaps.  I know you said the lightmaps were bad, but I didn't think this bad.  Plus this ship has only one phaser strip.  Is that all it has.  Plus there is a weird texture problem on one of the nacelles.  Looks like a color test patern.  From the screenshots for the BC model, it looks like the nacelles should be more rounded.

If the nacelles could be replaced with the ones from WZs Relentless or Republic, the Akira would look awsome.

Starship Spotter says that the Akira has 6 Type X Collimated Phaser Arrays and 15 Mk 80 Direct-Fire Photon Torpedo Tubes.

Which isn't canon by any means. Where the ship could hide all those torpedo tubes is debatable, and the studio cgi model itself obviously only has 3 phaser arrays - 1 on top of the saucer, 2 on the bottom (which would be 1 if the hull wasn't in the way).

The ship could have that many launchers because torpedo tubes are easier to tuck away in greebles and recesses. Phaser arrays, however, are a lot more prominent and need clear lines of fire.

The phasers are set, but the number of torpedo launchers on the CG model is actually 18. This I have found by careful research of not only schematics, but looking at screens from FC.

You can find all 18 on the EAS schematics.
