J'inn, some info on wills?
« on: March 28, 2005, 10:58:08 am »
I posted this publicly instead of PM so that others may learn too. What is the avg price for making a will, and can you do that for me even though you are in another state? I prefer helping Forum members and vets before turning to others.

I can't answer the average price question because it varies from State to State and with the complexity of the Will.  $100.00 - $500.00 for a basic one would not surprise me.

I would feel uncomfortable doing a Will for anyone that lived in a State other than Maryland or D.C. as that is where I am licenced.

If you lived here I'd do it for you for free.  <cough hack cough>

The VA may provide legal services for Wills,  last I heard active duty folks could get them done by the JAG for free.

Sorry for the non-answer.

Never a non-answer my friend, thanks for the info. If I was to die, does my wife get everything or do states like to contest things and make a mess? I would NEVER allow you to do it for free, I can afford to pay, as anyone who has the money should.

If you die without a Will you need to look at the State's Intestate Distribution Rules.  (Spouse usually gets everything unless there are children from outside the marriage)

And remember,  anything held jointly generally goes to whoever you held it jointly with.

Did I mention lately that J'inn hired me, and I sublet out to Punisher for GPS guided-submunitions launched from a low-orbit satellite for anyone who threatens to report J'inn to the bar?

Living Will

I just came across this link.  Maybe J'inn or any others with a legal background could evaluate if this document is thorough enough?

The laws on these matters are State specific.    Check with the Department of Aging (or whatever it is called) in your State or County.  Local nursing homes will also have State approved forms.

Don't trust anything you get off the internet unless it is from a site run by your State Governement, County Government, or a hospital in your County.

Damn, the orbital bombardment system is due today? Crap on a high-technology-government-contracted-stick....umm...what do we got ready now?!

Well,...no one ever checks to make sure these things are in orbit -- so we'll just say we launched em and throw out complex numbers like Apogee and Perigee and declination so they glaze over. If they actually need to fire them, we'll just pay some local thug to blow up the target. Woo hoo!

My genius has done it again! With all the contract money I can build a real orbital bombardment system and destroy the French...then ON TO ANTARCTICA TO DESTROY THE EVIL PENGUIN THREAT!
