Ladder League and birthdates.
« on: March 25, 2005, 09:43:56 am »
Maybe one of you other developers can fill me in. I can't for the life of me think of a legit reason I should garther birthdate info on those who register for the ladder league. I thought about using it as part of the encrypted UserID info, but there are better, more unique identifiers I can use for that purpose.

Is there a good reason to gather that info? If not, I'm going to drop it from the registration page.

I wouldn't bother. My vanity usually prevents me from revealing my true age anyway... (lol... rofl...).

Just an MD5 hashed password will do.

I know Whoo had it for GZLeagues, and if you entered a birthdate that indicated you were under 13 years old, it wouldn't let you register without sending a faxed form with parental permission.

I don't have any clue as to whether or not there was some legal basis for this, but I know he had it.
