Dynaverse 2 with router
« on: March 24, 2005, 04:48:23 pm »
Ok. My computer is in the DMZ, and the OP ports are open (i think).

However, when I draft someone, I get timeout errors. And no one can draft me.

When I plugged my computer directly into the DSL modem (no router), it worked fine.

Any ideas? I have a linksys router.

Thanks. Now I can't get my windowed mode of OP to work. When it loads it just gives me a black screen with the cursor.

My desktop is 1024x768, and the OP is set at 800x600.

I think you need to turn the display down to 16 bit color too.

Ok I got it to run in a window, but I still can't draft people. If someone would get on MSN IM or AIM i would appreciate it.

Skyflier.. post your OS and I will see what I can do to help you out.. also post your DirectX version (not entire log).. also run a DXDIAG to make sure all files are checked out in the second tab...

Let's see if there are some settings we can change on you OS to where it will allow you to draft and be drafted.. Could be something as simple as a protocal not being configured correctly.

Do you have the latest Firmware update for the router and have you looked at the manual for configuration? Compare those to Kroma's settings..

I'll dig into ME and see if there are some Network Protocal settings that may free you up.. but if the game works correctly with Router disconnected, then it seems to me like an IP conflict.. your game is not recognizing incoming signals because of the different IP addresses.. your Internal IP is different than your Network IP, which is why you can not draft or be drafted.. the game or router may think you have to use your internal IP, but the server and other games are using your external IP...

that is about as good as I can help concerning routers.. I don't use them.. easier for me to have 2 IP's than to configure ports..

I haven't updated the firmware. Edit: I just did. I think that was the problem.

I looked at kromas ports, and his menu is different than mine. I havent been able to contact him about it.  Edit: It looks more or less the same. I might need kroma to host forwarding.zip again tho =\

SkyFlier.. get on the SSFC Teamspeak.. Kroma is online there now.. He is going into mission, so if you can, join the TS and when he comes out of mission, he may be able to help you out personally.

I'm pretty sure its my Linksys router. I draft fine when i'm plugged directly into the DSL modem.

I've got Verizon DSL with a Linksys  WRT54G Wireless rounter, have the Desktop computer plugged right into it, using the split option since my wife uses the router wirelessly. I can draft, be drafted and hold in a 5-6 player game with no problems.
Make sure to look under your security settings, make sure the router firewall is off (how many firewalls do you need running at once, anyway?). If you set port forwarding, and still have problems, try running it in DMZ mode(found under "gaming applications"). Note: You can't have it set for DMZ and Port forwarding at the same time, so make sure you disable the port forwarding before trying to run it in DMZ mode.
If it still doesn't work...throw the router out and tell everyone else you need the mainline for your computer... ;D
