OK SFB gurus..
« on: March 18, 2005, 06:13:54 pm »
A loooong time ago whe I was but a wee lad of 11 or 12, I (sort of) remember one of my
frends (who's older brother played SFB) tellling me about some ships.
I *think* he said there was some deal/ thing with the galactic powers that said they could only have 12 ships
so they had to be the best?
Does this ring any bells with any of you who have been playing for a while? It would have had to been
published in the eighties sometime, (I think)

Anyway just been bugging me if it's for SFB or some hazy memory of some other game we tried playing.

Sounds like he's talking about the Xships and the Organian treaty that only allowed 18 capitol ships, thus the 2nd generation X-Ships were produced...

Yeah, it was an add-on module. Since second generation X-Ships were "pure" X tech, not just added tech like the 1st gen. X ships, they had more complex rules. triple power batteries, Dizzys being able to be held, overloaded and double overloaded, etc.,  they made a whole module out of it.
That way you had to buy something else... ;)

IIRC, the Second Generation X-Ships were later discarded when the Doomsday edition came out as SVC said they were too cheesy. He also downgraded the ISC and Andromedans to where they were still competetive, but not over the top like they were in the Commander's Edition.
