Yeah, I hope it gets picked up here if for no other reason than the chick that they have playing Rose is yummy.

Easy Nemisis... slow 'er down there with the links

I saw the stuff on the site... just wanted Dash's take on her abilities/tallent.

Here in the US, if a pop singer looks that good, you can generally take her having tallent of any sort (except for making horny teenage boys buy records on her looks) completely out of the picture. Since Dash is from over there, I was hoping that he had seen some of her other work and could tell us if she is worth a flip from firsthand experience.

I'm afraid I don't normally watch much TV except for News.  I do watch Enterprise occasionally, other than that, I must admit, the only show that has caught my interest in the past few years was My Hero.

The only thing that I wanted to see in this new Doctor Who is the theme song upgraded to the newest version.. the one by the band called Orbital off their Altogether album. Sadly, they went with another hack and made a so so theme track for the show.

However, the premise of the new series is very exciting.. I'm an old Tom Baker and Peter Davis fan.

They are going to show it on BBC America, see if you have it on your cable.

Because of this I don't know if they will let PBS get a crack at it.

Well, it is going to take them a few episodes to get it together.. the first episode seemed sort of rushed... the guy playing the Doctor must have taken lessons from Tom Baker.. their mannerisms are quite similar, though the new doctor's dress is much better.. and keeping with traditional Dr Who episodes, it was low budget... Anyhow, it is nice to have it back, though the first episode I think that they could have made a better storyline with what they were doing.. It was just a rush episode to get the girl with the Doctor, hopefully the remainder of the series is done much better otherwise I think it is going to bomb... This first one I give a 6 out of 10 and I'm being a slight bit generous.. it is mainly given to the manerism to the Doctor because the way he acted reminded me ALOT of the Tom Baker Doctor.. Anyhow.. hope that this helps.

Helps??!!  No this doesn't help!!!  Nothing will help until I see it!!!

I haven't kept up with the prodcution of this new series, but I loved the old one.  (Especially Pertwee through Davison).  I just got the chance to rewatch all the Pertwee episodes in order on PBS.     Classic!

One question, if you don't mind.  Is this guy supposed to be the Ninth Doctor,  or the eigth (pretending McGee from the recent American movie didn't happen), or is this a new reboot with a new "first" Doctor?

Well, the first episode is not clear on that aspect, however all indications according to the Dr. Who BBC site points to him being the 9th doctor.. plus one scene in the episode backs that up when he looks into a mirror.

and McGee from the ABC Movie is Official as the 8th Doctor according to the BBC Doctor Who site.

Also Official is the 1 episode pilot spinoff "K9 and Company" where the K9 Unit is not the K9 The doctor used (K9 Mark II), but actually a more improved version (K9 Mark III). They had an entire series written, but BBC did not continue the series.. it had over 8 million viewers in ratings on the first showing and 2 million on the repete 2 weeks later... though the Theme song and imagery needed a LOT of work.

Well i watched the episode on BBC1 on saturday i have to say pestalence's analysis was more or less spot on i thought the episode wasnt too bad but i think there needs to be improvement in the next episodes which i am sure there will be. Clearly was a rush job to get Rose and the Dr together.

Any other brits managed to see the episode on saturday night, if so what were their thoughts about it?

I watched this on Saturday night.  Thought it was good. A lot of references that older Doctor Who fans would like (The JFK thing - 1st ever epsiode I believe was aired on the day of his assination) while keeping it relevant to todays younger viewers.  The new 45 minute length should work well overseas and it gives more time for storylines over the previous versions.  Papers today said it got 10.5 million viewers on Saturday evening, which is very good.  If it can keep that sort of viewer figures going it'll have no problem getting commisioned for a new series.

I'll have to see what one my my company directors thought of it tomorrow....he had a bit part in an old Tom Baker storyline....I'll have to remember which episode though!!

I liked it....it had some good humour and it also kept the old humour too.
What I like is that an episode was filmed in my local City of Swansea, which I was able to go see a little filming of. They also filmed in Cardiff, so us Welsh got some good exposure. (for a change) ;D ;D

It did feel rushed, but I think that was needed. I really disliked Rose's Boyfriend though.
I look forward to next week.
God said to the Welsh: 'I am going to give you this glorious land of lakes and mountains.' So where's the catch, asked the Welsh? 'Wait until you see the neighbours,' replied God.

From BBC News:

BBC commissions second season and Christmas special.

According to the Guardian, Jane Tranter has commissioned more Doctor Who. "I want to make Doctor Who again," she said. She claimed to be shocked by the first episode's popularity.

"I told myself I'd be completely and utterly thrilled if it got 6.5 million, but there was a little voice inside whispering '4.5 million'," she admitted.

She also revealed that the show had scored a good 81 out of 100 in audience appreciation research.

While other writers are still to be confirmed, Russell T Davies will be penning the 60 minute Christmas special.

"It's fantastic news," said Russell. "It's been a tense and jittery time because the production team has been working on plans for Series Two - scripts are being written already! - without ever knowing if it would ever get made. We could all have ended up unemployed. But now we can put all those plans into action and get going.

"It's particularly good for BBC Wales. This is a major flagship show for the region, and their staff and crews are the best you could find. It's a tribute to them that Doctor Who is returning. Cymru am byth!"

Well this is an interesting twist... :o

Eccleston quits Doctor Who role

Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit as Doctor Who after just one episode of the new series has been screened, the BBC has confirmed.

Eccleston, whose first appearance as the ninth Time Lord attracted around 10 million viewers, feared being typecast.

Talks are taking place to replace him with Casanova star David Tennant.

A second series of the new Doctor Who, which will again be written by Russell T Davies and produced by BBC Wales, has already been commissioned.

Billie Piper, who plays Dr Who's assistant Rose, is expected to star again.

'Incredible reaction'

Eccleston - whose last appearance is expected to be in a Christmas special - said he was also planning new projects and that he found filming the series gruelling.

"The audience's response for the new Doctor Who has been incredible and I am really proud to be part of it and I hope viewers continue to enjoy the series," he said in a statement issued through the BBC.

A BBC spokesman said the corporation would issue a formal statement later on Thursday and that it had hoped, rather than expected, that Eccleston would continue in the role.

He said that although talks to make David Tennant the 10th Doctor were taking place, other names may be put forward.

Bill Nighy was also considered for the Eccleston role, while Richard E Grant starred in a BBC web drama version of Doctor Who.

Period drama Casanova, which moves to BBC1 from BBC3 on Monday, added to Tennant's reputation after his success in the drama Blackpool.

'Jittery time'

The BBC announced on Wednesday that it had commissioned the second Doctor Who series, which will again feature 13 episodes.

Russell T Davies said: "It's fantastic news. It's been a tense and jittery time because the production team has been working on plans.

"It's particularly good for BBC Wales. This is a major flagship show for the region, and their staff and crews are the best you could find. It's a tribute to them that Doctor Who is returning."

Dr Who was relaunched last Saturday weekend following a 16-year hiatus.

With 9.9 million viewers, it beat Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Supposedly, he only gets twelve.  With this guy quitting so soon as the ninth and a tenth about to start, the good Dr. is running short.  (I sorta wish they'd forget that USA movie; that would give him another.  And besides, it sucked.  )

Of course, he could always go the way of the Master, and start stealing bodies......

Interesting article on the BBC Site today showing some of the actors tipped by TV pundits, fans and bookmakers to take the role:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4396295.stm

Not a particular fan of any of them...
