Having trouble changing out music in SFC3
« on: January 22, 2005, 01:08:55 pm »
I've been having problems changing out the music in SFC3. I know that you have to have the mp3 files stored in a zero compression zip folder, but everytime I zip these files into one and switch out the music files, I lose the music in the game. I've been using Musicmatch Jukebox 9.0 and WinZip (evaluation Version) to convert/create my music folders...... and yes i've been using the same bit rate of the original SFC3 music. Could it be that these programs are not suited for creating the proper music files? If so, can anybody tell me what programs work and where I can get them? If the programs are not the problem, can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I've been banging my head against a wall on this problem for about a month now and I would appreciate any helpful advice. Thanks! ;D

Windows Media Player works well.. just put the song into Windows Media Now playing.. click Stop then use file and Save As.. and save as an MP3.. works fine for me.. Winzip 9 is what I use as well..

You also have to edit the sounds.txt file as well IIRC.. if not, make sure the names of the music match exactly for the music you are replacing.. such as Caps and Underscores.

Just remember, you have to add it to the archive  sound.zip  and not zip it up...

Yes, when you add it in, put absolutely no compression on it.

You must encode the .mp3 files without variable compression (mp3 decoder from SFC3 is some years old...).
(Let's say at 128kb/s; not 64 to 192.. or so.)
Individuality is irrelevant. Self-determination is irrelevant. Negotiation is irrelevant.
