Topic: Question about X ship PBR

The rule reads:

"1st  Gen X Ships:  Teams can deploy 1st  Gen X-ships in two ways.  Option A – A single Heavy Cruiser Hull X ship can be used as a Command Variant.  These ships are listed with the Command Variants on the Matrix.  All other ships must be non-X.  Option B – All Ships in the formation must be X ships.  These formations are still limited to single Heavy Cruiser X-hull.  1st Gen X ships for each Race are listed on the Matrix."

Becasue Option B says, "still" limited to a single Heavy Cruiser X-hull. I took that to mean that just like in Option A the squad had to be lead by an X-CA. Is it really just implying that the X-CA is always considered a command variant, and therefoer limiting X-CAs to 1 per squad? Is it legal to take 3 X-CLs or X-DDs, or some combination of them?

In other words, if taking 3 X ships does one have to be a CA?

I've been interpreting it as no.

If option A, then the X ship must be a CA. If option B, then ships may be of any hull type as long as only one CA is taken and the other PBR rules are followed.

I am beginning to believe that must be the case. It needs to be rewritten to just say that though.

I see nothing in option 2 implying that a CA is mandatory, only that one is the max.

I read it as "These formations are still limited to having a[/b] single Heavy Cruiser X-hull. ", most it seems are reading it as "These formations are still limited to only having a[/b] single Heavy Cruiser X-hull. "

I interpreted it the wayI did  because option A required you to take an X-CA, and since option B said still[/b] I assumed that was the intent here as well. That is to say the intention that every X squad be commanded by an X- CA. I am fine either way, just wanted to be clear. I actually like the your guys interpretation.

to my understanding even in last cycle, the second option allowed you to take a CA X ship as command, but did not force you to do so.  You could take 3 X frigates or lights, or combos of frigates and lights.  It was just to stop any fleet from using more than 1 Heavy X ship.

LOL...no biggie, it has actually never been an issue for us in adv until week 9 of this cycle that features a lower BPV adv game.
