I've been getting myself blown up by the computer for the past two days on GFZ, although as of yet a human has not blown me up. 

Wanderer, I'm an old-timer who's been playing mostly SFC3 lately, but recently got the urge to go back to my roots (thanks again, C-los and Capt. Jeff!).  I started playing on Mplayer in March of 2000 with SFC1 and was part of the old Starlance league (very crappy pilot, only made exp 5).  I started out with the old USFC fleet and then transferred to FBF (Federation Blue Fleet) after that. I hated the change to gamespy and that was a large reason why I quit playing for a while (that and the fact that the D2 wasn't nearly as good as it is now).

I almost always fly fed, though, unless feds aren't in the campaign.  Then I usually go with an Alliance race (flying Hydran on the GFZ right now).  I am patiently waiting, though, for the chance to chase J'inn around the map, just for pete's sake.

Well, my merry band of men in red shorts and socks have managed to rack up four kills out of four matches.  WarClaw wants a rematch, which I'll get and he'll probably win because even with those victories, I'm extremely rusty.  There were like ten or fifteen mistakes I made each match.

Many fed fleets had a number of aholes in them -- guess some things never change
9th didnt -- 9th fleet was a class act from top to bottom..

way way back in the days of SL -- when you didnt have to declare what race you were flying only the BPV of the match-- 9th was about the only fleet you could count on to fly FED at whatever terms were negotiated -- others would choose whatever cheese they could to beat you at the selected BPV.
They were top notch pilots who didnt need to stab you in the back to win..
NannerSlug, Ghis, Canuck and a long list of others who were honorable on and off the battle maps..

It was 9th fleet that KHH fought way way back in the aborted SL campaign... as I recall just when they aborted the campaign 9th had a task force of approx 48CA/CC coming at KHH with a fleet of approx 28? D7C/D7/D6/D6D/F5C (would have been some great battles if they happened)

Oh and in case anyone still keeps in touch with Reprisal - tell him duck wants to know how Sgt Harper is doing.... "God save the queen" (Rep will know exactly what that all means)

FPF, calm down, please.  I do believe that he's talking about a day before the FPF existed. Many fed fleets in those days did take whatever race had the best ship in a certain point range after negotiations were done, and on counterpoint so did many of the fleets from other races.  It was a different community back then, with over 4,500 people registered for the Starlance leagues and participating in league-style matches. 

Very few fleets ever stuck to their guns on what races you fly in matches, most of the ones I was a member of discouraged flying other races on principal (why be a fed if you're not going to fly fed?).  KHH was a great klingon fleet, home of many fed's arch-nemesis, and they almost always flew klingon in any match.  Likewise there were a few gorn fleets that did the same, and so on and so forth...

Most average pilots of those days ran when they saw an opponent with the fleet tag KHH, 9th, FBF, iCoP, MoK, Rage, and I can't even remember some of the other fleet names anymore, but there were several gorn and rom fleets that also fit this bill.  Me, I was too stupid to run most of the time and accepted the challenge, mostly because I always learned something new from those matches with more experienced players.  When people started running from me, it felt good for the first few times and then very, very boring when they declined matches over and over again. 

With all that said...Ducky never was very good at playing nice.

Um, I was bashing the klingons, and I don't think they meant to bash any current fed fleets.  Most of the ones they might be referring to are out of existence now.

Secondly you actually failed to pick up on my post being one of high praise for the Federation 9th fleet as being as class act..instead you chose to focus on my one little comment about some fed fleets..see we never had that problem in khh we never had one ahole -- the entire fleet were aholes.

  Ah, there's some Fleet names I haven't heard in awhile.  Some great times back then, I do miss them. My first SL Fleet was RAGE, Komodo was a member also. It was a Fleet standard to always fly Fed. Lost way too many games because I was a newb, but I had fun and slowly got better. By the time it came to an end, 3rd Fleet, MoK and iCop had most of the players. And 3rd Phoenix was always online, like 18 hours a day, it seemed. LOL    I only managed to defeat him once, but I did learn a few things from him. And he gave me some tips/tricks for all the points I gave to him and 3rd, near the end of SL.  
Oh well, those were the days.

Shadowlord,  I remember doing general war 4 (F&E style campaign) with you and the KHH.  The 9th ran the Feds and Lyrans. You guys were the Mirak.  If I remember correctly we put quite a whoopin' on the bad guys.  It was some of the most fun I had playing SFC2.  You guys are a good bunch.  Thrain used to talk about Ducky quite a bit, can't say I ever met the guy though. (Oh, and Wanderer has been a buddy of mine for a few years, he's a good guy too )

Yep -- in the campaign that Ghis was running -- we joined it late and were only given the option of flying Mirak == which we did --had great fun kicking some klingon arse in those Campaign battles..as I recall -- after a few major defeats the enemy threw in the towel and the campaign was over...
If only KHH had been the klingon empire -- !!!

It was a blast.  I remember seeing the film of one of your battles vs the Klingons.  It was quite the fight.  I think your team took out their whole TF and you only lost a couple ships.  I should see if I saved that one.  It was one huge battle and was neat to watch.  Between that and our battle where they lost quite a few ships, if I remember correctly, they SDed bases so they could bring the defense ships to the front line. 

Wish they still had that type of campaign going on.  It was a blast having you guys on the same side.
