How do you convert bc .nif to sfc .mod in 3ds max 5
« on: February 19, 2005, 05:31:34 pm »
I downloaded a nif importer from thanos tower and put it in my plug-ins folder but it crashes every time I load a .nif file. I've seen a nif import/export plugin for milkshape but I don't use it. So, any ideas from the community? Also is there a 3ds max plug-in available for Armada 2 .sod files yet?

Dunno about the sod files, but there isn't a nif exporter/importer for Max5, only for Max 3.1, and the result ya'll get is...hmm...messy...

I'd love to read more input on this - surely with the number of people that 'use' max - you'd think that there would be an importer for it above the rather ancient looking max3?

ok smiley, put it simple , MAX just dont like .nif files. i have yet to find anything  that even comes close to the milkshape plugin. ur best bet is to convert .nif  with milkshape then use max to modify and the rest.

With regards to reverse conversion of SOD based models. You have a few options:

1) The MS3d plugin for Milkshape. It will open STOCK models ONLY. This means it won't import 3rd party models in any way shape or form. There is a special version of this plugin which a bare handful of people (me not included), actually have.
2) Lithium UVMapper. Free program which is fairly hard to come by. Opens all Armada 1 model files but not Armada 2.
3) Ultimate Unwrap 3d. Will import around 98% of all Armada based models, but needs to be registered to allow saving/exporting.

Hope that helps.

I have a version of of Lithunwrap (1.3) before they went all commercial, that can open any version: 3rd party; stock; version 1 or 2

there are exporters for max 3.1, those are the only ones compatable with the games. There are plugins for other versions though. How any of them work is beyond me as I usualy get the original models and save the trouble.
