Tony Tarkowski served in the army from 68-70, and suffered a back injury during AIT. Despite the setback, he spent two years as a cook. He struggled to find work after returning to civilian life, and being a disabled veteran did not help. Today, he's president of syngetics, a Grayling, MI HR recruiting company specializing in IT, engineering, business executive and administrative jobs.
In Oct. Syngetics won a human resources contract from the U.S. Army because of being a service disabled, veteran owned small business and is located in a HUBzone (Historically Underutilized Business Zone). The deal, under which Syngetics will provide staff for the military, related civilian and govt. agency jobs, could be worth as much as $134 MILLION dollars, which would make it the largest SDVOB in history.
Man, this guy cracks me up when he gives an interview in the Veterans Business Journal and states "I really do not have that much money right now." After landing that contract, I would tell my accountant to change my pay to $1 Mil a yr!
Kudos for veterans like this guy who started a business in their basement and took advantage of programs for veterans in getting started with their own small business.
