ModelsPlease, what ship is this?
« on: February 09, 2005, 08:15:07 am »
Just reading another thread, and saw this ship in one of your posts:

Looking hot !!!!! I PM'ed ya a new history Tus. Hope that one works better for ya. And chris here's yet another interpetation of the Wanbunda class........

The more the merrier I guess lol. Gotta luv trek. The only limits is one's imagination. Actually this one looks more "Lost Era" ish. I wonder if Sandman would be interested in the Wanbunda that I just posted.

That little picture looks rather hot...

... Has anyone modeled it? If not, can someone? Looks like a beautiful Lost Era ship right there...!

That's the Wanbunda Class, and no to the best of my knowledge she hasn't been done. I totally agree it's one HOT lost era ship, and hopefully someone will take a stab at her. I'm at work now,but when I get home I'll see if I can dig up any more views of it.

Judging from the NCC number given for the only Wambundu class starship listed in the ST Encyclopedia (USS Drake, NCC-20381), this ship would have come before the Ambassador class (most listed with 26000 series NCC numbers).

Since the primary hull looks rather Excelsior-ish, perhaps the first Wambundu  was a modified Excelsior, a test-bed vehicle for the new Ambassador-style nacelles.  Perhaps this test-bed design was so successful in and of itself, that a number of Excelsiors were converted to the Wambundu design.

ASDB's take on the Wambundu-class.  Just FYI again, since I think of it sort-of plausable;  Especially when ships of similar design had been around since the late 23rd-century (Such as the Sydney-class U.S.S. Jenolan from "Relics" [TNG]).

With that new post it seems there are 4 takes on the Wanbunda class. I still like the one I posted best.

I would have to agree with you there, it has a feel of continuity about it.

Sounds good- I would even go so far as to designate it as a new class, either between the Excelsior/Ambassador classes, or as a pre-Galaxy follow up to the Ambassador- the "Independence" class

Just have another look at her again  ;D:

MP, can you remember when you saw this picture originally?

Also, is there any modeler out there who can take pity on us and get this beauty into the stars...?  :-\

LOL yes I remember where I found it. It was listed as the Wanbunda class. That's about it. But I'll go surfing and see what else I may find.

It looks to be just a modified Excelsior hull with modified Ambassador nacelles, but without better views, I cannot be sure.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

Sure...if you can texture, that would be wonderful.  ;) I hate texturing. :P If not, that's cool too...we can figure something out. ;)

What version of max you using? I use 5, so anything before won't read .max files, but I can export to .mpd or .3ds.

One warning though...I'm kinda flaky when it comes to these things...pretty much do models that grab me by the b@lls and won't let go 'til I do it, so sometimes I lose track of what I'm working on and for whom. ::) Send me an email explaing what you can do and we'll work out particulars. :)
