Let me first say thanks so much for all the good tips and support I have gotten on this page.  I am new to all of this and everyone's patience and insights are greatly appreciated.  To business:  I finally gained access for my first ever Dynaverse experience today! (Meet Klingon Commander Kuq'Po).  I played one mission (against the AI, I think) to see if it worked and everything seemed to work fine.  I would like to play as much as possible while the server is up, but I have a couple of questions.  I have searched the threads as much as possible but some things are still unclear.

1)  How do I "get coordinated" so that I am playing with other Dynaverse players as opposed to just playing against the AI?  I am assuming I can just cruise around the board and play missions within the bounds of the SG server rules (which I have read).  Am I mistaken in this?  Even if true, I obviously would like to get some PvP interaction.  How do I do so?  I have read about being drafted into missions---How does this Happen?  Can one volunteer?  Is there a schedule of missions or maybe a forum I can go to to find out if there are missions out there in which I may participate?  Basically, I am just wondering how to make this more of an interactive, participatory experience than I would get by merely playing a single player campaign on my own system.  I would also assume there is some sort of "High Command" for the Klinks and the Coalition who makes mission and/ or ship assignments.  How do I get involved with this?

2)  The server clearly functions in real time (although in a speeded up real time) so that events are unfolding in the Dynaverse even when I am not playing.  What happens to my character and ships when I am not online?  PArticularly, what if my sector gets taken while I am in it and offline?

3)  It looks like I can just "fly what I buy".  Correct?

4)  I can only fly one ship at a time, correct?

5)  What happens if that one ship dies?  Is that character done for the duration of the server (I presume yes?)

Thanks again for all your help!!

Easy Questions first   ;D

2.  Your ships is off the map when you are not online.   it is safe, but you can get trapped behind the lines so "park" in a save spot before you sign off.

3.  No.  OOB is in effect for all specialty and capital ships.   Anything with a "c" or an "s" before the class name is controlled and you mest get permision from a race leader to buy one and fly it.   Most races have a surplus at this time so pretty much all you have to do is ask.

4.  1 ship per pilot.

5. If you die, you buy a new ship and contoinue on.

Welcome PoJo92.   I'll answer what I can and let the wiser heads answer the rest.

The best way to get marching orders is to PM WillWeasel or LordKrueg.  Will will give you access to the coalition officers club.  That is where all the assignments come from.  Krueg is our ARM.  As far as fighting human players, I would recommend that you get together on Ventrilo and fly wing for an experienced pilot.   It will help keep you from losing a lot of ships.  (Trust me.  I am!)

2)  The server clearly functions in real time (although in a speeded up real time) so that events are unfolding in the Dynaverse even when I am not playing.  What happens to my character and ships when I am not online?  PArticularly, what if my sector gets taken while I am in it and offline?

As far as I know, nothing, but I'll let one of the better minds answer that.

3)  It looks like I can just "fly what I buy".  Correct?

No, not actually.  If it has a lower case 's' or 'c' in front of it, that vessel is a restricted class vessel.  Those are reserved for certain pilots.  The dreadnaughts currently don't have that designation, but they, too, are restricted.  Avoid flying those.

4)  I can only fly one ship at a time, correct?

Actually, that is what you are supposed to do, but if you buy a new ship, and start a mission without selling/trading the other, you will get a wingman.  This is a no-no.  Fly only one ship.  If you own two, sell one.

5)  What happens if that one ship dies?  Is that character done for the duration of the server (I presume yes?)

No.  If your ship gets destroyed, you will get a new one assigned by the server instantly.  Otherwise, we'd be down to two or three pilots in a day.

Hope all this helps.  Look forward to seeing you online

I obviously would like to get some PvP interaction.  How do I do so?  I have read about being drafted into missions---How does this Happen?  Can one volunteer?

If you want PvP, then check the news tab on the left of the screen. It will show hexes that are being attacked. You can go 'park' in one and wait to be drafted or 'jump' someone Dizzy style.

Here's how the drafting works. If there is a player in a hex and another player moves in (must happen in this order) and takes a mission, the other player sitting there will get a mission window pop up. You MUST take the mission, you cannot forfeit. Once the mission begins, you will see if you were drafted by a Friend or foe.

Alternatively, you can move next to a hex and wait for a ship to move into the hex to take a mission. Missions are generated when you move into a hex and it is your choice which one to take if more than one is offered, however, when moving into an enemy hex, you will get a mandatory mission you cannot refuse. This means moving into enemy space stops your movement untill you complete the mission, then you may move again.

Friendly space you can move thru at will.

I check the news and find out where peeps are running misions and then go there. If I see a counter move (U have to use the up down arrows on the map zoom in the top right of the screen to zoom all the way in to see ship counters) and its an enemy, I move quickly into the hex they are in and select a mission. If wait too long, they may choose and go into a mission themselves and will not draft you because you wernt in the hex when they moved in. You habve to be there 1st.

Anyway, ull figure it out. ;)

As mentioned before, get a hold of Krueg, he's the Klingon RM for this.  There's also Another Forum with "secluded" rooms where the teams can gather and plan.  I'd put in a request for the Coalition Officer's Club usergroup (via the usergroups option) to get in on the planning there...

You're believed to be in a stardock / running silent / doing whatever you do when "off screen".  Many people are believed to be "closet" alcoholics, especially among the Gorn... ;)  Somehow, no matter what happens, your ship can't be found.  If someone else conquers your hex while you are gone, you will suddenly find yourself in enemy territory.  Frequently, the best thing to do when logging out for the night is to retreat to a safe hex (preferably a base close to the center of your territory...)

If your ship is about to be destroyed, remember that every cruiser has lots and lots of Lifepods.  It is assumed that many vessels have an escape pod hatch within jumping distance of the command chair, because miraculously every captain somehow escapes the death of the ship, and comes back with a new (often smaller) ship with which to do battle.  Just ask some of your fine compatriots there, they go by the names Hexx and J'inn.

Hi everyone.  Thanks again for all your kind help!  I have now played a few missions and managed to get drafted into my first PvP (where I got my tail kicked  :-[, though I did live to fight another day). Apologies if I have run afoul of any of the rules--still learning the ropes a little bit.  Accidentally bought a capital ship while clicking around in the shipyard and had to sell it back.

Also hope I am not taking liberties with the movement.  I am assuming that I may move freely within Klingon Space unless I get drafted into a mission.  Someone please let me know if I am mistaken here.

Requested access to the Coalition Officers Club, and looking forward to more bloody combat.

For the record:

There is no problem with you moving freely in home or ally space.  If you ever see a message along the lines of "you can't move, you must pick a mission", that means you have strayed out into enemy territory, where movement is much more restricted.
After clearing that message, if you go to the missions screen, the missions will now have a "forfeit" button.  That means you must either forfeit the mission (and lose some PP), or play it.  If there is more than 1 mission, then you are allowed to pick whatever mission you want to fulfill the requirements.

Good luck... ;)

YOU MAY NOT EVER FORFEIT A MISSION!

This is because it screws with the server DB. The server doesnt understand how to deal with forfeits and causes filing errors swelling the DB. It also contributes to processor spikes.

OMG! Dont do it!!!

Its against the rules too. ;)

The alternative is to take the mission and just fly off the map right away if youre not fit for a fight. ;)

Or if you fly Fed it's really not so much the alternative as the standard.
