Coversion of this Sovereign?
« on: January 30, 2005, 04:45:33 pm »
Anybody convert this ship?  I'm sure it was once, but this one seems upgraded with better textures and added torpedo launchers.  I think this would be an excelent addition to the awesome Sovereign class fleet.

The link to the ships is here...

If anyone feels interested in converting well-detailed BC ships like the CG Sovereign, why not Scotchy's Galaxy?  You can find it for BC here.

It's been done before with LC Amaral's Ambassador-class starship models.

If only I could, I would convert BC ships myself.  :-D  But there are some here in the community that have the skills and tools to convert the ships.

Patience on that Sov, folks.  CG is coming out with a new and improved one optimized for lower-end machines and engines like SFC.  Should, repeat should, be coming out soon.  As for the Galaxy, that one's on the table, and I'd like to see that one in SFC.

Speaking of Sovereign, I downloaded this one but for some reason the textures dont work on.  Both the SFC2 and SFC3 dont work.  Any reason for it?

Model: Federation Sovereign Class mk2
Modeller: Howedar
Textures: Redragon (redragon@trekmods.com)
Conversion/Scaling: Darkdrone
Hard/Damage Points: Taldren/Darkdrone
Illumination: Redragon

Well on these ones they're not all the same res.  Some of them are 130x64, 782x573, 256x616, etc.

Is that the Sovereign from Trekmods?  That model has never worked right.  The hardpoints are screwed up (photons from phaser banks, phaser from photon launchers), and the textures are still screwed up.  I know they tried to fix it once, and the model has potential, but I think they should start over with it.

It is a beautiful looking ship and its sad to hear this.  I downloaded it from the Battleclinic.  When I seen it I was like "Holy Crap that Rocks" lol.  But if we are lucky this Sovereign from BC will be converted someday.

How about this one ????

As for that other Sovie....it was a pain in the butt but I resized all the textures and got it working in my game.

I've got that one.  I think that is the same one from BC but not the newest one.  Because it lacks torpedo launchers and the arch shape on the shuttle bay isnt there.  I actually moded the textures on that ship because its blue instead of tan or silver.  Its not bad but there is always room for improvement.  What sizes did you make your textures?

Each texture was different . Yeah there are alot of them but if ya go thru, one by one it only takes a few minutes to figure out what size they need to be.

CG did that one before Nemesis came out on DVD, so he didn't have all the intricate details down.  CG Sov 1.0 has all those details, but I doubt it would work well with SFC2/3; it drags BC down to a halt on mid to low-range systems as it is.  2.0 will be optimized for playability on lower end systems and game engines like SFC.  Chris Jones, creator of the Universe at War mod for SFC2 has gotten permission to convert it once it is released, so it should be within the next couple of weeks.

Well then again, most people like designs that are just hot-rod-looking and if the Galaxy-class doesn't have that third nacelle and big gun, then the Sovereign-class would be most people's choice of ship, albeit not the case for my taste. *shrug*

Mani, you've done excellent in converting that Galaxy-class.  As for registries, I think a simple cut-and-paste job using the textures on this SFC version and textures on the original BC version (mainly the ID textures on the original BC version) would work fine to place names and registry-numbers.

I would definately enjoy this model nonetheless, be it in SFC1 or SFC2... Most-likely the latter though. *shrug*

It looks Awesome!  It does seem though from those pics that she lacks illumination, that is besides the Warp Engies.  Maybe it's just me though.  But I can't wait to Download her!  How big is she anyway?  Megabyte wise I mean.

back to the original topic of this thread, I am told that the v2 model of the CG sov will be out for BC soon, as I just spoke with CG yesterday. I can ask if he wants it sent to sfc right away and maybe I can get the original model so it doesn't need to be converted from a nif.

excellent STAR lets hope u can get it. converting out of NIF format is easy. just as long as its not in some BCmod format. where u need a mod program to install it in BC.

as far as the galaxy goes. yes it doesnt have the light maps done yet. but will be coming soon

actualy mani you can install with the BCMI program. You just downlaod it and specify a temporary folder. But porting from nif can screw upt he model. Always better quality if it's the max version or 3ds anyways. Also I have BCMI so if there's one u want...

You going to include hi res textures? 1024? doesnt matter really as I can convert the original TGA's but theyre hell of a good quality, be a shame to lose it.

Don't the TGA texture files have lightmaps in themselves which you can extract and make seperate?  Just curious...

As I said Mani, you've done excellent in converting that Galaxy-class.  The wait to fly her around in SFC2 (if hardpoints for SFC2 are made available) will be well worth it.
