ESG weirdness?
« on: January 24, 2005, 03:16:14 pm »
OK I've had this happen a couple of times recently, but until today it never happened in a PVP.

Fire a rng 1 or 0 ESG at PB range. ESG makes the firing sound, capacitor is emptied.
But the target suffers no damage. Get ass kicked for a bit, recharge ESG, set to rng 3
Come in, fire ESG, capacitor empties, Target suffers no damage.
To be honest in a PVP (especially with AI) it's kinda inconvenient.

Anyone have this or anything similar with other heavy weapons?
It has always happened (the first time) on a close range (0 or 1) ESG firing, then its useless for the rest of the game.

Is it possible in deleting the ESG loop file Ive knocked something else out that occassionally causes
it to screw up?

LOL... I doubt that...

As far as wierdness goes though....

I flew a few missions this morning and I couldn't get the F1 view to work.... no idea if it was a bug or my KB crapping out on me.

I've never had that happen Hexx, and I've deleted those sound files also.

Methinks there was a special present for you in the SG4 download.

I've played SFC OP since it came out, and SFC EAW since that came out, and even SFC1 a little. The only time I ever had anything like that happen was the one time I tried the UAW mod, and someone picked one of those funky landscape ships. My ESGs kept zapping the "ground" instead of my targets.

If you have a film of that happening I'd be curious to watch it, though?

I have had this happen to me, Hexx, but very, very, VERY, rarely.  Likewise, I've rarely had plasma torps slam into my target and deliver zero damage.  That's really inconveniant, especially when the target is still fully-armed.

I'm guessing it's the same bug in both cases.

The one thing I have noticed is that once this bug starts, it lasts for the duration of the entire mission.  Therefore, whenever it happens to me now (which is probably less than one mission in 500) I simply bug out.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but FS did include the ESG loop fix in OP 4.0+. And a big TY to him for that, I had never corrected that before... ;D

I've often seen plasma do that as well, but it was always related to game lag for me...

And yes, kudos to FS for implementing that fix! It hasn't worked 100% for me, but it really has helped. I ended up removing the looping sounds anyway for this server...
