***SGO4 Important New Testing and Feedback Thread!!!***
« on: January 20, 2005, 08:30:58 am »
Here is the current lin to all things SGO4: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163351518.msg1122511494.html#msg1122511494

Tonight sometime, there will be another mission and shiplist update. Bonk and I will need everyone we can to test test test till Friday night when the final install will be done. We need as much feedback as possible.

Here are some things to watch out for:

*How often the same missions show up and how much mission variety there is.
*Co-op missions paying out and reporting DV changes properly.
*PvP missions paying out and reporting DV changes properly.
    *Mission matching and AI difficulty.
*Try and use only Carriers and casual or full PF tenders so we can make sure all the PF and Ftrs are present.
*And have fun! Consider this the fun server part till the kickoff!

Here are the links to the current installers:

Test moved to D.net to get ready to go live...

the Kar_ePatrol just says mission complete gives you a victory 300 PP and  no shift. I was attacking a gorn hex in an ISC CV.

How many times did this occur?

Actually, I recall now this occured once last night too... thats enough to say I'll put version 2.1s back in instead to test for the rest of the afternoon (using a few 2.2s now)... hold up... its a shiplist structure thing... might try to fix, if not easily fixable EEK is out...

ok it happens in that mission every time when you attack the gorns. When you attack any one else as isc it works fine. Also when you  use it as any other race it works fine also I havent tried attacking the gorn as rommie or klink.

Thanks bunches Kurok, that tells me its a shiplist thing, if I can fix it easily I will, if not then EEK is out as we're OK for missions but a little lacking in variety.

I see this will cause issues all over the place: the doantion the structure...
upcoming fix: I will rearrange the shiplist donation scheme so most missions will work again...

game result: I will disable warp doubling for the pirate slots, otherwise donated empire carriers and PFTs will be able to warp double. therefore the pirates in the lyran slot will not be able to warp double - i'm betting this will be inconsequential to the server... (besides that lyran pirate slot has ISC ships in it... doubling ISC!?!?  uhuh.. we can compensate the pirates otherwise in the shiplist if necessary.)

this update will occur shortly, if dizzy and the players are OK with it, we can start putting all kinds of missions back in, if not we can go back to the way it is now and leave out all the missions with issues with this list (most)...

No offence Bonk. (And kudos fro running the server)
kudos.. now I have to look and see where that came from

Anyway wouldn't it be better to run the server with the (generally) stable
mission mix we have now, rather than rewriting stuff a couple of days before it's supposed to go live?

(RememberIm not questioning you skills, honestly don't know )

I mean ,essentially we have
1) A more or less stable shiplist
and
2) A more or less stable mission set

Why mess with it?

It will work.  It will work exactly how Bonk is proposing as long as he can properly disable Engine doubling.

The Pirates in the Lyran slot are inconsequential compared to having the missions work. They were a bit part anyway. I'll be happy to trade them in for stable missions. And bonk, the isc ships in the lyran list wernt donored so they couldnt engine double. Course, if ur fix works, it all wont matter anyway. :D

GL, I really hope it works.

Edit, in fact, the LAST installer we are doing till late tonight has just been done. So D/L and help test till tonight. Co-Op and PvP are the only things need testing. Proper DV shifts and prestige rerporting, esp with karnak patrols. U want AI stripping right? Gotta make sure the missions work or they will be pulled and we are with ED.

I just ran a mission in a Romulan SUN with 2 squads of 4 fighters. I bought 4 CENd and 4 CENl and when I launched them, they were invisible/not there. No shots fired. I did have the 2 squad markers in my shuttle control panel and the appropriate launch and recovery sound fx were there.

Romulan CEN's are PF's not fighters

I think we can (or have) a list of fighters & PF's somewhere so everyone can find out which is which.

Yes the R-Cen(d/l) and the R-STH-E/D/A/B/L are pf's and can only be carried by a full/casual pf tender.  The romulan fighters are the R-G1/2/3 etc.  If you try to put fighters on a pf tender or pf's on a carrier then you will not see anything launch in game.

In coop, the DV won't drop and the drafted coop player won't receive prestige once they return to the map.

No difference to run through them in SP - just test for PFs and fighters where there should be... faster anyway.

Kar5?

There is Kar_DockRaid.scr, Kar_ePatrol.scr and Kar_hPatrol.scr which one you mean? In any case it looks like the EEK missions wont work. (I'd be curious to see if they are behaving the same on SFB-OP and UAW...)

The plan is to put some of the NW missions that were removed due to unhappyness with the last shiplist back in for variety, and if OK leave them in and just go with those.

They can't build a DN so what can we do with those BP's?

Ok, well, 2 (always half of what u have) can be banked and you can loan 1. Means u end up wasting one.

Or you can convert them to CP's at a rate of 2 to 1. Use your 1 turn CP exemption (the rule that says u cant spend more than half ur CP's on the same type ship) and you have 6x BF's.

Course, I do think the Gorn do have a crappy Dread and if they do, you can upgrade that later to a better refit like this:

G-cDNE >   G-cDN >   G-cDNF >   G-cDNT (1CP) or G-cDNH (1CP)

G-cDNP >
G-cDNL >   G-cDNM (1CP)

Lotsa things to consider.

G-DN  2271
G-DNL 2272
G-DND 2272

Any of which I think can be built for the first cycle.

Problem with the Karnak Dock Raid. I was in ISC space and the defending ships appeared. When I looked at my map, 1 of the defending ships was marked with the big "X", like a station would be. I destroyed the first 2 ships and then had to fly around the hex to find the other docks. Again the 2 defending ships appeared, same as the first time. I never saw the actual space docks.

dock raid requires you to blow up 2x FRD's. That's it. If you fail to do so in a timely manner, enemy reinforcements show up.

Bottom line is that any decent NCL or CA can do that mission. But you have to focus on your objective. If you don't, you will fail that mission. I think its a great mission.

Bonk, can you also take a look at the R-KHK(f) donors and all, and compare it to the KCR for DamCon rating? I think (if thats what determines spares,) that they are different. The KHK has 10 and the KCR has 15. Is this correct?

Undo whatever you did to fix the resolution. Find StarfleetOP.exe in your OP installation folder; right click and copy it, then "paste as shortcut" on the desktop. Use this shortcut to start the game.  Download EzINI - use this to set your resolution etc.

Passed out when I got home last night, sorry... I'll look at those when I get home from work tonight. (and the remaining updates)

I had a look through the NW missions last night before I crashed tho and it seems most that were pulled were for reasons not due to the shiplist. (mostly out of era fighters etc...). It seems players are more observant and picky than in the past (a good thing!), many of the same missions were on the GW series, SFB-OP and older servers.  So we're pretty much down to the same mission list as before. I can put the shiplist donation structure back the way it was if we want so we can turn warp doubling back on. (but I think this config is more stable - if we get reports of cheating I'll simply set up the installer so that you cannot, but it will be inconvenient for all so I'd rather not). Anyway I can set it up either way, just let me know, and I'll look at those two issues mentioned above.

I can work on it a bunch tonight to finalise things, which will probably end up being pretty much where DH had things anyway, plus the minor shiplist fixes found since. Send along the final(?) map and "upsized" heavy fighter models and I'll get at 'er about 5PM EST...

I was able to log onto the server last night with no problems.  Never played OP online, so I was just testing to see if I could connect to the server without problems.  Now, after fixing my resolution problem, I can't log onto the server.  I keep getting the error message that starfleetop.exe is missing, even after I uninstall and reinstall the SGO4 mod.  Any help would be appreciated.

Undo whatever you did to fix the resolution. Find StarfleetOP.exe in your OP installation folder; right click and copy it, then "paste as shortcut" on the desktop. Use this shortcut to start the game.  Download EzINI - use this to set your resolution etc.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll try it out again.  I reinstalled the entire game, and the same thing still happened.  I've even been going straight into the game folder and located the exe file and used that, and still, same thing.

14 terrain hexes have been removed. It's always easier to remove them than to go back in and add them afterwards. New map will go up tonight.

Gotta head to work, but should be home around 2 or 3 CST this afternoon. I need to practice my Bruce skills because they're pretty rusty... ;)

How come we are only allowed 5 parts instead of 10 it would be nice to have 12?You may be great at this with less parts being a vetran and all but how about us rookies?

a vet would make more use than a newb of spares. U'd never want to give a vet more. ;)

All ships have a damage control rating that determines their spares number.

Hey Dizzy I am not sure if thiswas intended or not but several ships are showing up at the wrong time.

The R-sK7VR in the rom section show year 9 but in the Orionsynd donor section at the top it shows as year 20 causing not to show up in game until 2283 instead of 2272.  The R-sSPB, R-sSUA and several others are the same way.

Nope, the donor FYA does not matter.

Really,  interesting I just logged on to the server and looked and tried it in SP and none of those ships are available until 2283

I dont think its a problem. There are 2x shiplists. Yours and the server. they play nice together on the dyna, but seperated, they are evil and mean.

If you guys say so, I will take your word for it since you know more about the server kit than I do.  I just thought I would report that even on the server they show as 2283 on the shipyard description screen.

the Donor ships shouldn't even be in the Server list.   This is how it worked in GW4.

Don't forget me in it!!!   As for the ship variants, I personally, as a newbie, feel realism is cool.  Repair parts in real ships aren't determined by a captains seniority, but rather by class.
