Resolution problem...
« on: January 20, 2005, 03:30:03 am »
Hi everyone.  This is my first time posting in this section of dynaverse.net, so please forgive me if this has already been addressed.

Anyway, I'm preparing to play my first OP campaign, and I have the game installed, patched up, updated, and everything.  The game is working fine actually, with one exception.

I can't get the resolution to go from 800x600 to 1024x768.  I have tried using the Setup Utility in OP to change the resolution, but it doesn't want to change.  I have the latest drivers downloaded for my graphics card.  Below you'll find a basic list of my system setup.  Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 mb PC2700 DDR
160 GB Western Digital HDD
Windows XP SP2
Direct X 9.0C
nVidia Geforce FX 5200 with latest drivers straight from nVidia

Again, I've tried using the Setup Utility that comes with OP, but it's still set to 800x600.  Is there another way to reset the graphics resolution for the game?  Thanks.

Hi.  I got it to set to the desired resolution.  I went into the game folder and double clicked the utility manually.  That seems to do the trick.  Thanks anyway.

THAT is a sweet ride in your sig, Daihak!!  Any chance that you have an in-game model of that?

If not, could a modeller get a hold of it and build one? ;D

very sweet!!

You should really download EAZIni ... it's listed here @ Dynaverse.net downloads or you can get it @ XenoCorp.net, SF Universe, as well as KhoroMags site.

It not only sets the resolution but it also sets up hidden player BPV / Race options...

Check it out :D

Thanks for all the responses guys.  I realy appreciate it.  Currently I'm preparing to fly on the Slave Girls of Orion 4 campaign.  I figured out my resolution problem, but now I've got another problem.  Everytime I try to log onto the test server, it keeps saying that starfleetop.exe is missing.  How can that be if I'm able to start the game and access the server lists?  I might just reinstall the entire game and start from scratch.

Oh, and by the way, to the person who asked about the ship in my sig, and the guy who responded to him.  You can find the ship on WZ's site, but you can't.  See, this is one of his ships, just kitbashed.  Over in the models forum here on dynaverse.net, you should find a thread called Mark 6 Constitution.  Currently the ships are about to be released on OutaLance and then soon after on SFC3Files.com.  You can read everything concerning the Mark 6 on that thread.

But, concerning my current problem, if anyone can offer any assistance, I'll be very grateful.  Thanks.

Don't reinstall.

There's a problem some people have with it, and there is a very easy fix, I just can't remember right now what it is.. grrrrr.

Come on guys, tell him what he needs to do.   I know Mog had this problem as well as a few others and it was fixed rather easily...

Bonk posted something I'm going to try right now.  If it doesn't work, I'm probably gonna shoot something.

You wouldn't happen to have OP installed on a different drive than C, do you?  From what I hear, the game checks for the StarfleetOP.exe's existance on the C-drive, and this is "hardcoded"... :(

Actually I have it installed on my D: drive partition.  What's weird is that right now I just tried logging onto the server, didn't work, same error message.  But I tried logging onto another D2 server, using the SGO4 mod installed.  I think the server was something Tavern, and you know what?  It actually connected!!!!  And the one time I was able to log onto the SGO4 test server, I had the game installed on my D: partition, and it worked fine.  This is the 2nd time I have reinstalled the entire game from scratch.  I'm getting really frustrated.

Ok, just tried logging on again, and the same thing happened.  Couldn't log onto SGO4 test server.  Got the same error message, starfleetop.exe is missing.  I double check, the file is there.  I made a shortcut directly to the file itself.  The other servers I can log onto easily for some reason.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Slave Girls of Orion 4 an Orion Pirates mod?

The Tavern server will let you log onto it no matter what shiplist you're using. But, it'll crash you out upon taking certain missions, using certain ships, etc. if you're not using the "correct" shiplist and mission pack for that server. That's because of a lack of security protocols there.
Do you have your exe file set correctly? When you right click on your sfc icon, your "start in" and "target" boxes have to have different (other than the default) settings in order for the fighters to be seen.
In the target" box put: "C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\StarFleetOP.exe"
In the "start in" box put: "C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\"

Note, if you have the game in a different drive other than C, insert the change there (such as D)
If that doesn't help, I don't know what the problem is.

Guess what, I don't know what the problem is either.  In the other thread I started, concerning this very problem, Bonk recommended that I double check the registry.  I did.  I even uninstalled the entire game, and I do mean ENTIRE GAME, including game folder, and deleted all traces of the game in the registry that I could find.  I then reinstalled the game, installed the patch, installed the OP shiplist, and then the SGO4 mod.  Same thing happened as before.  When I try and log onto the server, it says starfleetop.exe is missing, but it's not missing.  It's there.  I'm hoping that the final release of the SGO4 mod will correct this problem.  If not, I'm officially doing away with OP.

Did you try those changes I listed? Not having those set right has been the source of many problems in the past for many players.
