Have you done your update today?

If you haven't done so lately you might wish to give it a shot. MS released two updates--one of them a security critical--this past Tuesday.

I'm supposed to have my computer set on auto update downloading with me picking which ones to install.

I haven't seen an update message in a while now, so, after reading your posts, I go to the update webpage and try to find my updates.

I get this error message:

Error number: 0x80248011

Any of you guys have any idea what's going on?

Try clearing the Microsoft Internet Explorer cache:

1.   Start Internet Explorer.
2.   On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3.   Click the General tab.
4.   In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Cookies.
5.   In the Delete Cookies box, click OK.
6.   Click Delete Files.
7.   Click to select the Delete all offline content check box in the Delete Files dialog box, and then click OK.
8.   In the History section, click Clear History.
9.   Click Yes, and then click OK.

From what little I just read this should resolve the issue.  Hope this helps.

Hey Jav!  Thanks.  I'll give it a try as soon as I can.  (I'm taking a break from sanding, staining, and polyurethaning... "... these are a few of my favorite things... " ... NOT!! [ unless someone else is doing it for me, but alas, when you're poor... ]).

;)

PS:  Yes, I did just update the windows machines.

Hey Javora, that didn't do it, but the solution they posted below it did.  I wonder what corrupts auto updating all the time in my system.

You don't. You get to purchase a whole new box for an update.  :o

Glad to hear things are working again although I'm not sure what is throwing the monkey wrench into the works.  The site did list this however:

Note Programs, such as Web accelerators, DNS accelerators, DNS caching utilities, and Spyblockers, can add static IP entries for the Windows Update Web site to your Hosts file. This scenario can cause Windows Update to fail.

Are you running a spyblocker?  Oh I forgot to list the link in my last post, sorry here it is:

As far as I can remember, I have not installed any spyBLOCKERS; I have spyware scanners- AdAware, Spybot.  Then I have Norton Systemworks.  Oh yeah, I'm behind a router, too, but that shouldn't make any difference downloading... I think.
