BSG VIPER MkII WIP 14/01/05
« on: January 12, 2005, 06:40:38 pm »

Viper MkII - YES THIS TIME IT IS THE MKII Rofl

This is pretty accurate to the studio model... I was using the sci fi meshes, mkII until I noticed its quite a way off...

Textures at 30% done shown, Poly count is 8445... but this is before converted...  ;)

Now this one I really Like!

and just because I saw this in another thread;
Did you model it in legos first?

What's it for? You're converting it to SFC? Why?

Cool fighter but I have to agree, too many polies for game use. Like I should be saying that when I release some with 10,000. But 10,000 in a DN is a bit more acceptable than in a fighter. Thats why I suggested an all fighter mod before. I forgot who was doing one about 1a yaer and a half ago. Was It Kreeargh?  His idea(or who evers it was)  was to build higher poly fighters but then put them in an all fighter mod that had no capitol ships. Thus the fighters themselves became the FF, DD, CL etc...  that way the highr poly ones could be used. As doesn't OP launch 8 of them for carriers?

Great for renders and such  ;D  Makes real good eye candy.

Why?
:D

Why not?

BTW Dude, you should convert this and the MkI to Freelancer - that game is much more suited to high-poly fighters plus it'll just look too cool in 3D combat.

Very nice looking so far, I take it you're using those orthos of the actual mesh by Zoic studios, Looks like it by how close it seems to the original. I think there's ortho's of the new BSG Shuttle on that site as well, but none of the MkVII Viper which is a shame as it's a beautiful design.
If I determine the enemy's disposition of forces while I have no perceptible form, I can concentrate my forces while the enemy is fragmented. The pinnacle of military deployment approaches the formless: if it is formless, then the deepest spy cannot discern it, nor the wise make plans against it.

While your mentioning orthos. Do you remeber seeing any Andromeda pics over there? Particularly need non High-Guard references. All my ships are modeled from watching episodes and usually just when I finish a mesh I see a better view of the ship in the next episode.

Sorry if thats off topic to the thread. Ok back to this model. Yes its awesome and I hadn't though about freeLancer. Yea that game has stock models over 10,000 poligons so no problem. I often wonder why 1 game can handle so many more polies. Must be the programming or something.

Rofl.... I always start with Lego  :D etheir that or stick'o'bricks, occasionlay kinex  :D

We'll for the fun of it I suppose, I'll make a very low poly version using the muti res modifier, and as it is so small it wont really matter, I will be uploading it into BC with the mutch higher eye candy version and the lower poly realistic for game use version..  :)

Thanks for your comments guys, appreciated hopefully I will have this finished today and up for release If I have time  :)

@ Red_Green: sorry mate, I'm afraid they don't have a section on Andromeda - see they only have the new BSG stuff so soon because the guy who runs the site did some work on the new BSG - he designed the MkII shuttle that ferries everyone around, so he knows the people who did the CGI and can get the pics straight from them. The other sections are similarly opurtune things - there's pics of the Rodger Young from Starship Troopers because someone who took photographs got in touch with the site and shared it seems. Here's the URL if you wanna have a look and be inspired though: http://www.starshipbuilder.com/

@Stewiedude: you are one totally hoopy frood (HGTTG reference) can't wait for this to be finished. The best pics I found of the MkVII are these: http://www.galactica2003.net/colonials/viper7.shtml some good renders but not really helpful for building a mesh. I'm doing some doodles, which will soon become sketches and then from there hopefully proper ortho schematics of some in-between-ey Vipers (there are 4 types between the 2 shown in the series so...)

Nice work, stewiedude!   :rwoot:  The Mk. II is growing on me, I must admit, though I still prefer the original Viper.  The Mk. VII I don't like, though; it's just too "Buck Rogers" for my taste and IMO didn't fit into the overall design theme of the new BSG.
So stand by your glasses ready,
This world is a world of lies,
Here's a toast to the dead already,
And Hurrah! for the next one who dies
