looking good Stewie!

At this rate we should have a few more ships to add to the BSG line up (new and old)

OT: I like the older versions story line but its hard to pass up on the newer ship designs.

Great looking model. Looking forward to seeing the end result. Stewiedude, how did you get the blue on the nose to feather into the white like that? Neat effect, is that done using a plugin? I'd like to know unless its a trade secret :o

I dont mind sharing tips dude.... Its actually just the burn tool, set to about 45% lasso the tops and bottoms and burn away ;)

Thanks man, You must have PS and I use PSP as I don't see burn, but I must have something close. Nice update btw.

i dont know to me it looks like the nose of the ship is a little too short by about 15-20% longer and it would be perfect exellent textures there StewieDude

PSpro7 has a little white hand, click on that and go to your tools box. There should be listings for smudge, push, burn etc... just grab the one you want to start playing with it.

If it makes you feel any better I didn't find it until about two weeks ago and I have been using PSPro7 off and on for 3 years.

The nose does semm a little stubby, but that could be angles too. :P

It's very nice, but it isn't the MkII from the new series, it's kind of a hybrid between the old MkI and the MkII as far as I can see: I found this link ages ago with orthos and perspective shots of the MkII: http://www.starshipbuilder.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000002.html - this is the actual CGI mesh used in the series, notice the wings are a completely different shape, as are the engine housings and the whole fighter is much more graceful and elongates than the old series MkI Viper. Nice, but not the MkII

BTW Pestalence, have you seen the new series? Not the mini-series thing they did ages ago, the actual full length series, the story is so much more developed, for example the first episode centred on the effects on the crew of being constantly chased by the Cylons - they've been awake constantly for weeks with almost no sleep having to keep on jumping to escape the Cylon fleet that's tracking them. The original BSG used a nuclear holocaust of billions of humans as an excuse for the characters to have some swashbuckling adventures, the repercusions of the annihilation of the species are actually given some thought in the new series. BTW the new series is not a continuation of the old in any way, it's a re-telling of the original story, but there's no Earth, it's a myth (I reckon they just wanted to avoid a BSG1980 type thing, man that sucked).

Oh well as they say to each their own, everyone has their own opinion and (hopefully) their own TV so they can choose what to watch. :)

This is what I used for ref..... My background information on BSG is very poor...

I think it is the Mk I then? or is the original just called Viper?

Anyway, thanks guys  ;)

So... Im throwing a lit match into a puddle of gasolene... My Cobra Idea being the match and you guys being the gasoline  :D

So b4 you slam me for going completley nutts, take a second look and be a little open minded... My idea behind this is that It whould be used for longer distance attack runs and stuff.... twice the firepower of a viper and 1 extra engine for speed... it is less manouverable though im sure!! A cockpit also to seat 2...
This is the first basic version, Id like to stick a singular rear blaster that the second pilot could operate?? Im going to completley change the hull pattern and have the nose stripe slip down the sides. Also this will have fonts, I-e ship number on the wings etc...

Just thought id let you make the comments for severre changes first  :)

PS I hope you guys can see the image cos I cant... and thats at two different hosts ::)

I don't recall the original version (from the original series) having any "mark" designation, just Viper.  "Mark 2" came from the new miniseries, and was a tweaked version of the original (as Marauth posted).  There's also a Mark 5 or 7, I forget which, that was the "state of the art" Viper from the new series.

The Cobra seems like an interesting extrapolation of the design; my only suggestion would be giving it some heavier weaponry of some sort.  I had a Battlestar Galactica board game back in the day which gave Vipers "proton torpedoes"; I don't think this blatant Star Wars ripoff was actually in the series, but it might be a place to start...  :)

Probably under or to the sides of the nose, not directly where that vent is on the Viper, it probably does something important. Yes the one you built is the old Viper which is now referred to by fans as the MkI - a logical conclusion given the MkII of the new series is the old model which looks fairly similar. The cutting-edge Vipers that get hacked into and disabled by the Cylons are the MkVII and look much cooler, if only they had a decent paint job (they're kind of a mixture of metallic dull grey and metallic pastel blue depending on lighting :P). In the series they've been fixed (they're no longer all networked to a big central computer) and are used to differentiate main characters in combat sequences - Apollo flies a MkVII and Starbuck flies a MkII.

I'm very interested in if we'll ever get to find out what happened to the MkIII, IV, V and VI type Vipers but it's unlikely they'll bother coming up with designs for them as the Gallactica obviously doesn't carry them (she only has a couple dozen fighters in total and not enough pilots for the ones they have) and there are no other Colonial ships left after the miniseries.
