Mark 6 Constitution. Kitbash of WZ's various Connie models.....
« on: January 04, 2005, 01:02:49 am »
This is the standard refit.  All these ships use WZ's Valiant model, but with different nacelles for each.

This is what I call a modified Mark 6.  I had shown progress shots of the ships to various people, and received requests for the refit connie nacelles to be put onto the model.   At first glance it looks to be nothing more than WZ's refit connie but with other textures, but I can reassure you that this ship is mainly the Valiant model, with WZ's refit connie nacelles grafted onto them.  All ships have been approved for release by WZ.

I would like to thank WZ for his permission for releasing these kitbashes, and a big thanks goes to various members of OutaLance shipyards.  Without them lending their talents to this project, I wouldn't have been able to do this.

The 2ND model better demonstrates a variant or refit for that ship.  Excellent bash !!

Good job to everyone involved.

It uses virtually all of WZ's textures from various models that he's made over the years, mainly his current line of Connies.  The original saucer registries were removed so that we could put new registries on them.  Also the insignia on the hull has been modified as well to give it a slight 25th century feel.   The deflector dish was donated by Fallen_Warrior, along with the warp textures on the NX refit, to give it that transwarp feel.  Great job my friend.  :-D  Also, thanks goes to Manitoba, not only for teaching me the basic kitbashing skills, but also for teaching me how to hardpoint, and also for helping with the placement of the nacelles on the NX refit.  ModelsPlease helped with making the registries on the saucers, and damn, they turned out beautifully.  Also, Sandman is recognized for teaching me how to add lightmaps using Max.  Capt. Dawg spent many hours pouring through the various textures we had and selected the ones that made this project possible, and he is also the one that suggested using WZ's old nacelles for the transwarp refit.  If I left anyone out, let me know.  :woot: :woot:

bloody hell - 25th C. refit? :o That'd make the older ships 155 years old (assuming any of the original Connies are still in service by 2400).

Very nice bashes, subtle and convincing

BTW the Ent-A was decommissioned in 2293 to make way for the Ent-B, might want to use a different name. ;)

Actually, it was done on purpose.  Capt. Dawg and I felt that as long as she kept her specific registry, i.e. NCC - 1701 - A, it wouldn't be much of a problem.  We all know the Enterprise was self-destructed, the Enterprise-C was destroyed at Neranda III, and the Enterprise D destroyed at Veridian III.  No one knows what happened to the Enterprise-B.  Maybe she was destroyed.  Maybe she was retired.  We do know the Enterprise-A was retired, so somewhere her hull was mothballed for later use if the situation ever arised.

I also remembered in DS9 when the Defiant was blown up, and then Capt. Sisko was given a new ship, and he was allowed to name her the Defiant.  This new Defiant got the original registry as her predecessor, with no A at the end of it, to denote the namesake.  So I figured, if that could happen in canon Trek, well, this could work too.  :-D  Besides, people always love their legends.

Yes but:

1. The Defiant registry was laziness because they didn't want to do new battle-sequences - they kept the registry specifically so they could be cheap and use stock footage and
2. The Defiant was destroyed, the 'new' Defiant was it's successor - the Ent-A was retired and has had 4 successors come and go, the Ent-E is still in service and after that there'll be an 'F' and so on. So if they did for some reason build a new one it wouldn't be called Enterprise because that'd be reserved for the current Enterprise - they don't seem to have 2 ships with one name in service at the same time in Starfleet, and the old one is in a museum anyway but if they got it out and refitted it they'd be more likely to recommission it with a new name than p*ss off the crew of the current Enterprise and generally confuse everyone by having two ships with the same really famous name in service.
If I determine the enemy's disposition of forces while I have no perceptible form, I can concentrate my forces while the enemy is fragmented. The pinnacle of military deployment approaches the formless: if it is formless, then the deepest spy cannot discern it, nor the wise make plans against it.

Personally I don't feel that the crews of either ship would feel pissed off or offended in anyway.  And it's not like you couldn't tear them apart.  :-D

I just got a mental image of the two Enterprises trying to drunkenly shov into each other in a pub and a Klingon ship flying inbetween to hold them 'at-arms-length'. Sorry, guess I've seen a few too many pub-fights. ;D

Thanks MP.  You helped name the ships by doing the registries.  :-D  Keep in mind that the latest renders were just for tinkering around with textures, seeing what might have been if I had gone a different route.

You're welcome, it was my pleasure to help out,and finally start to coontribute back to a community that has given me so much enjoyment. And for those who didn't know, these were some of the very first registries I ever did. Long before GAFY tutored me on PSP 8. I did every letter and number individually LOL and them moved them into place. Thanks GAFY if ya hadn't showed me the light I'd still be doing them that way. LOL and F_W thought I was fast then.  ;)

Mark 6 Shelved.....
« Reply #30 on: January 17, 2005, 08:48:40 am »
After much thought on the subject, and after receiving alot of private notices about gripes people have had about this concept of a 25th Century refit of the Connie, I've decided to just stop the release of the ships.  Alot of people have complained about various aspects of the concept, ranging from the decision to use the Ent-A name to the overall design of the ship, to just the concept itself, of there being a Connie in the 25th century.  I know a few people actually liked how it turned out, but with all the people just giving complaints about it, I just began to feel that this concept was overkill.  I know it can be attempted, but not by me.  If some of you want a decent 25th Century connie, don't worry.  A little bird told me there's a few ideas out there.  I apologize to everyone that might have actually liked these ships, and I apologize to OutaLance, for all their generous work they helped put into this.  I'm sorry.

The whole concept of the Mark 6 was an early 25th Century refit, and the last refit of the class, at least the last refit for the original ships.  I had wanted to give her a more updated look without going too damned crazy changing various aspects of the ship's design.  I thought about it like this.  One, the entire class underwent a total design change, but still stayed relatively the same in overall appearance.  Two, with the Excelsiors, and with the exception of the Enterprise-B, the entire Excelsior class remained unchanged in appearance except for resigned nacelles (which looked very much like the original) and the impulse crystals.  The entire class was upgraded many times, but mainly internally.  Her external appearance remained the name.  I felt that even though the Connie was refitted yet again for the 25th century, and be able to hold her own if anything happens, she still wouldn't be as advanced as the newer ships being commissioned at the time.  Alot of people disagreed with my opinions.  In some cases it felt like they were doing more than just disagreeing with my views.  The ships may be released one day.  We'll just have to wait and see.

I shoulda piped up sooner, but I didn't want to feel like a broken record. Your ships are YOUR ships, period. People will always have their own opinion, but I for one feel that it is the artist's choice, and the artist's choice alone, that should dictate any work of art. An din your case, I think its a little tragic that you have been nitpicked and browbeaten for trying to contribute and enrich for th erest of us. And for that I am sorry.

And for what it's worth. You stuff is WONDERFUL.

Daihak-I wouldn't put much stock in the naysayers. If they want the ships a different way, then let them make em themselves  :P
I used to put too much stock into peoples opinions on my work, after a while I just said screw it. In fact it helped me realize that I wasn't playing to my own strengths. I since moved on to non-Trek and found that I am better suited for the type of texturing and the designs. Actually its even more than that. I now am doing ships that truly inspire me. I am sorry but I think Start Trek design is trapped by its own popularity. New designs always have to show a tie to past Fed design, which is frankly limiting. You will also find that ST fans are the most demanding with details and also the least likely to accept anything that strays from traditional Feds.

Ask anyone here, I struggled big time with criticism. For one, I take myself and my models to serious at times. Kind people hinted that I  should just model for myself and thats the best advice anyone gave me. There is always going to be people that like your particular flavor of ships. Don't get caught up in trying to follow the most popular route

Dude ya know I love the ships so PLEASE release them...........they will find a way into the games for sure, perhaps not the way you may have envisioned but that's what great about Star Trek it's all about individual imagination.

Decision made.....
« Reply #39 on: January 18, 2005, 05:26:07 pm »
Various people in the community have contacted me about the Mark 6 and my decision to keep her from being released.  I have even spoken to WZ himself, since this ship is bashed from his own creations, and also follows his line of Constitutions.  The reason why it's named the Mark 6 is because his Republic can be considered the 5th version of the class, or Mark 5.

If some of you notice in my sig, not only do I choose to fly a Connie, but I have named her the Resurrection, and for good reason.  On some of the campaigns I have flown, I have taken many risks with my ship, as have many of you that have played before.  I've lost my ship on many occasions, but always seem to bounce back and keep fighting hard.

The Mark 6, all 3 variants, will fly, and they will fly with pride.  They may not be the youngest ships at the party, but I can tell you, they will make heads turn.  May Heaven AND Hell help those that stand in the way of these ships.  They may be old, but I can tell you this.  They'll put up one hell of a fight.

Now this is what Merlin, the Sorcerer can do to a starship.  :-D  I was just playing around with various textures, and damn if this little experiment didn't blow me away.
I like this one the bast and it looks great the only change I would make is to the name .I would make it curved like the penant number or NCC no.Really Nice it is my favourite afterall.

Actually there's only one Mark 4.  The other ship that looks like a Mark 4 is actually the Valiant model, which I call the Mark 3.  The Mark 4 was a texture bash.  Here and there I've been thinking up of ways to make the Mark 4 more distinguishable from the Valiant.

And Kaenyne, to answer your question, you must first look at one of the medals I have in my sig.  There's a good reason I was given that medal.  There's also good reason why I'm the first and only one to receive that medal.  MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA  But, to answer your question, yes, I do plan on torture until F_W can get the ships uploaded to OutaLance.
