BSG-75 (BattleStar galactica mini-series version)
« on: January 02, 2005, 02:24:49 am »

Well this is the start of a new project I am going to be working on for sfc3.
After roughly 6 hrs she is currently sitting around 470 polys and is maybe 1/3rd the way done.

Well just pushed her up to 566 polys sofar today. Most of the under belly is finished now with exception to the rear drive area.  Found a few gaps that had to be taken care of before I start working on the port and starboard pylons. If the poly count doesn't go to high I will see about meshing in the 16 turreted guns that are found on the Galactica. Over all I am shooting for about a 4-5K poly  model, if the over all count on the general shape stays as low as it has been. I will run back and add in extra details.

I do plan on doing one model of this ship with the non-functioning starboard hanger pylon as seen in the mini-series. I will also do another version with the starboard pylon fully combat ready.

thanks

Damn good...great to see one of the "original" modelers coming back to the fold. :)

Mani has been working on this same style of ship but working out the polies of a 440,000 poly mesh perhaps he could be send this mesh so far so he can find a way of taking the ribs out and replacing them with these textures, then again i have no idea about meshes but i know manis aim is to get a 9k poly model

Well I do not think Milkshape can even begin to handle  a 440K poly model. I have seen it handle around 100K but that was with some big lags between adding and moving parts around.

Slight up-date. BSG-75 just hit 1388 for poly count which is including the four engine pods meshed in but not textured yet.
On a side note I saw a 3/4 shot of the Galactica from the rear point of view and my lower mid section is all wrong for this to be truely canon but it will have to do for a low-poly model. In other words this model should not be able to handle the retracting of the port and starboard hanger pylons becuase they would not fit properly.

Anyways once I get the engine compartment meshed and textured this week I will post another shot.

i know milkshape cant do i but mani has a gift that lets him kitbash and port just about anything if you can get your work to him he can probably combine what you have with what he has been doing since i first set him the model a few months back that could give you your fighter pods and engine area and possibly an underbelly that will save you alot of time and at the same time giving Outalance a high poly BSG75 to play with

Well, I'm game at the pace I am going all I will need is the port and starboard fighter pylons at this point. I should have the engine pods and the main engine conpartment meshed and textured in by the end of this week.

Slight up-date before I head off to bed.

The four engine pods are now textured in, I will be working on that rear center compartment between the four engine pods next. Once that section is done, I will post an up-dated WIP shot and take a closer look at a few problem areas i have noticed in the past day. She is coming along fairly fast and if I plan out the hanger bay pylons right it shouldn't take to much effort to do two different ones.

All that should be left by this time tomorrow should be those two hanger pylons and the arm attachments.

As promised an up-dated WIP shot taken dirrectly from the model viewer. Still have some surface issues when it comes to smooth shading the lower two engine pods.. but that shouldn't take long to correct. Going to clean up a few issues in the next day or two before I start working on the hanger pylons. if you notice I have I do not have a current shot of the very front or aft sections and there is a good reason for it. one on the front section I still need to add in some small detail between the upper and lower hull area. The aft section looks okay currently, but its currently set up to handle the sfc3 glows so it seems off right now.

Oh yes, just about didn't get this posted today.. did about an hour worth of texturing when my pspro7 program geeked out on me and dropped me to Windows screen. Luckly after already doing it didn't take very long to remimic what I had originally.

As a side note this thing is a beast. 4500ft long roughly 1500Meters in length which is what about twice the length of a Galaxy Class starship. ;D Odds are you should be able to land a Steamrunner or Norway class ship in the Galactica's Hanger bay.

Thanks for your support guys, its short of fun again doing this stuff and bringing something new to the community once again. 2-3 years of doing this will burn you out...glad I just short of stepped away from this all for a good year, it was a very much needed break, even though i didn't think I needed one ;).

Once again thanks guys.

Fallen Warrior: I do intend on doing an FTL version as well.

This model would not look as good nor come together as quickly as it has but for Zoic full textured 3 Views I have for the Galactica. Thankfully I can use this to build up a whole new texture sets for the other ships with-in the fleet.
