I need a new monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions?
« on: January 01, 2005, 11:11:55 pm »
My old 21" monitor has about had it. I think it is time to replace it. I've been very impressed with some of the flat screen monitors I saw at CompUSA. I really liked the Samsung and the Sony. I don't have a Dell store nearby, so I can't check them out.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Where is a good place to buy one? Thanks all!

i bought my 19" fp931 by benq at tigerdirect.com for a really great price. i would recommend benq or samsung. ive used both and they are great. both samsung and benq make larger size monitors if you want to stick with 21" or bigger.

sony is okay but you pay more just for the name

Sony rocks IMO. If you can save or you already have the dough, consider one of those flat screen TVs (HDTV) that also doubles as a monitor. I can only imagine what EAW and OP would have been like had the prices of the new tech TVs been less expensive in 2001.  :D Can you imagine watching huge photons and phasers and drones fly across your screen?  ;D

Thanks guys! That's a +1 for each of you! Jack, I looked into the HDTV option and it appears they don't have the resolution of a LCD monitor. I thought that was odd.

My favourties would have me choosing between an Ilyama or an Eizo

A review on the Eizo...

No reviews on Ilyama's from them though.

I dont think anything except the very highest end HDTV's have near computer screen resolutions.

For comparison, XBOX, PS2 and Gamecube run at 640x480 resolution.  PSOne and Nintendo64 ran at 320x240 (I think it was 240...)
