Just straighten out the current pylons, give 'em a slight rearward angle, attach 'em on the side of the nacelles, with a little mounting base. ;) I like the photon idea also. :)

Personally, I would say keep the pylons.  It gives it a unique look.  But that's just my opinion.  The mesh is incredibly well built.  How long have you been building ships?  And the textures look just as good.

Agreed - the only important reason to change is the poly count, but you voice the same opinion as myself Daihak. I think its because the model is of such high quality is why Sdude is generating all this interest. Dont change anything you dont think would make the model any better. It looks awesome as is... release the hounds, smithers!

Very, very, very well put Lord Schtupp.  In the end, when making an original design, it's up to the designer to choose how it'll look, and what suggestions to take and not to take, if the designer feels it will add to the quality of the ship.  I guess, in the end, there's no right or wrong way of doing it.  But again, Stewie, great job on the ship.  Need a hardpointer?  I've actually learned to hardpoint recently, and from what I'm told, I can do a good job.  :-D
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

Ok.. so I think she is pretty mutch done, im going to start working on the variants now.. I took some of the sugestions onboard, added photon launchers to the front of the saucer, extended the necelles, left the pylons but they will be rectified in the next version. I have converted it to .mod, and will upload it sometime today once  have added hardpoints etc.

Thanks for your advice guys  ;D

and thanks to MarkyD for hosting the renders etc  ;)

Nice one, definaetly keep the nacelle struts as they are!!!!!!!!As Azel and Daihak stated.

Now, from my view, If you want to make the textures look even two times better and detailed then now, map only half of the ship on the longitudinal axis EXCLUDING the areas where the regs go( put those on a single map), symmetry the ship, and attach the Reg areas back onto the rest of the ship by welding the verts togeather, you'll hve twice the detailing then now. But that's only a suggestion.

Otherwise a great first ship ;D

Yeah, thats a well known technique, I prefer to draw out the entire saucer though, I study work done by the best and they all seem to use this method  :)

Thanks for the tip though  ;)

Alternate version, U.S.S. PARSON  ;)

change the buzzards to blue, change the orientation of the necelles, added photon launchers and changed the pylons to include living quaters.

Otherwise a great first ship ;D

Log that as the first understatement of the new year!

Excelent little ship- is it a frigate, destroyer or light cruiser? This is just for my own personal information, so I can arm her right when I D/L her. ;D

I like the whole thing. Before anyone gets too stuck on the bussards, remember not only did the Oberth have no visable bussards, it also had no visable warp field generators of any color.

I like both versions. Excellent work, and glad to have you around!

The Oberth had the black slats on the underside of the nacelles, just cuz they didn't light up doesn't mean they're not the same thing - they were probably like the outer edges of the Enterprise-class nacelles - armoured instead of leaving it all on show.

I just dislike bright red bussards in general, especially on TOS/TMP ships, doesn't matter as I'll just swap out the textures from the alternate vertical arrangement ship. BTW Stewiedude, what's that big yellow glow inbetween the impulse engines? Oh and one last thing you might consider addding to the textures before release (no need to waste more polies) is running lights like you've got on the nacelles, white on the front tip of the saucer, red on the left tip and green on the right tip. In any case both are great ships, can't wait to get them in game.

I know that they were there and not lit up, that was why I said 'no VISABLE warp field generators.' The Oberth defied about every design convention that the Feds had, save the saucer/engineering layout. Trek design is a malleable thing. If the bussards are red and it's not what's usually seen in the TMP era, then call it a 'transitional design' and it fits right in.

The yellow glow can be anything- it may be a tractor beam emitter for the shutlebays. Who knows? Only the great and powerful Stewie! *insert maniacal laugh here*

The man has put out one of the best first efforts that I've seen.
